Thought ya'll would get a bit of enjoyment from this pic I took today hauling hay. Each bale weighs around 1200 lbs X 15 bales = around 18,000 lbs + trailer. Not a problem what so ever. Day before yesterday, it finished it's return trip from NC, around 1300 miles in a day with average speed of 75-80 mph. The dog now has around 120,000 miles.

Morph,

Awesome picture!! Once again demonstrating for all to see, the incredible power and durability of that little 6 cylinder Cummins power plant. The dog ought to be well broken in by now :D

Morph,

The wife's cousin in Muskogee regularly hauls 11 of those with his '99 totally stock CTD. He has no problems. You must have some heavy-duty axles to put that much weight on two of them.

MORPH - Question about Your 1968 4010 Industrial tractor - 4010's only built till 1963, then 4020's till about 1971. Your 340 Diesel sounds like a nice little tractor. :)

Yes, my truck has a dana 80 in the rear, but I think he was referring to the trailer axles, they are 7000# axles, I had then slightly over thier max, but it was for short distances. On the 4010, I am not sure what year it is, the old farmer I bought it off of thought it was a 68. It has a 4010 rearend and a 4020 engine, so there really is no telling how old it is. The 340 would be a nice tractor if it had better steering, but it is worn out and has way too much slack in linkage. I am thinking about engineering a full hydraulic power steering system for it, I have the output for hydraulic power, since it has hydraulic assisted steering.

Hmmmmmm, The deere sounds like a 4000. But I didn't think they ever made an industrial version. The 4000 was a "low Budget 4020" with a lighter rear end. Does it have 2 or 3 reverse gears? 4010 had 3, 4000 and 4020 only 2, but the transmission in them still had the gears for the 3rd reverse in them. :)

The base tractor is a 4010, has the serial numbers and 4010 on the id plate, the engine is a rebuilt one that was upgraged to the 4020 horse power level. Yes, it has 3 reverse gears and 6 forward gears.

4010-4020... One other big difference was the injection pumps, the 4010's did not have an advance, the 4020's had a mech advance. Many advances were added or the pumps were changed.

2 Revs... well. . hehee. . all of the sycro ranges have 3 Revs gears, but only have 2 on the selector. The most of the later tractors after the 10 series did not have the 4-7 Revs gear. I have cut many into the selector on the dash or on the side consoles on the later tractors...

You could get a Deere in about any color if you wanted to pay to have it painted like that from the factory. Many went out to city, county, and state departments painted funny colors, but most ended up back to the orginal Green and Yellow. I think the True industrial tractors were called 400's, and had a square front, and a stronger front.

6 forward gears??? or 8. . The Ag models had 8. . not sure about the industrials. .

Just some FYI... later. .

Bryan

Great pic of the Dog working... I have a trailer about the same as you. . but don't trust the axles for a load like that. . (more like I don't trust the tires. . hahaa ) Going to hual the two pulling tractors on it next weekend. . should be no problem after seeing your load...

I was wrong on the forward gears, it does have 8 forward and 3 reverse. I believe that it has the mechanical advance for the injection pump. Here is a pic of it from the other day. I know that the frame is wider than the ag 40X0 series because the front end loader I bought, we had to modify it's brackets to make it fit the frame of the industrial. I like the front axle on the industrial better also, it is beefier than the ag. I also have a dozer blade that attaches to the undercarriage, going to get that operation this fall when things settle down some.
