Just finished install of new stereo. Used Alpine Head unit with 3 Alpine Amps and 2 Pairs of Boston Acoustics with a center cushion sub.
One thing I tried and will recomend to anyone who is trying to improve their sound system is a JL Audio stealthbox. Here is their link: http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthboxes/ramcentercushion.html
This replaces the lower center cushion seat and keeps the flip up console. Looks like it 's not even there. It does sit much firmer than the original, but thats what the rear seat is for, Right?
Also upon installation of the rear speakers, We noted that the BA Rally 6 1/2 speakers WILL fit the 5 1/4 factory enclosure. Thats what is now in my rear doors. I don't know about any other brand but thats what we encountered with these speakers.
I'll get off my soapbox now. #ad

Thanks a MILLION for that link!!!! I've been wanting to put a sub in that exact spot. I was planning to build my own center console but why reinvent the wheel if you don't have to!

Kevin, I second what Steve said #ad
Looks like that could save me from having to build a box for behind the seat (Regular Cab) BIG question is how much $ did it set you back?

The big reason why I got the center console sub is because my rear seat is always up so I can put stuff in the back. I was able to stuff all the amps and crossovers under both seats and it looks very stealthy- until you turn it on.
They also make one that fits under the rear seat with 2 downward firing subs. That was a little too much for my needs.

The List price for the JL audio stealthbox is $475. That includes the 10" subwoofer installed inside. (comes as a package)
I paid a little less than that (like %5) so depends on who you go to. Of course this was a special order so I had to wait a couple weeks.

Mactruck, I bet it sounds great! One question for now what did you use in the front doors? I have allready upgraded my stereo headunit to the pioneer unit. It allready sounds better and will play cd-r's. I will be adding the amps and centerseat
subwofer this spring. your input is appreciated.

I worked in the car audio indusrty for a couple of years so I thought I might be able to add some valuable input.

JL Audio does an excellent job of R&D and design of innovative products like the "woofer cushion. " I think this is an excellent product and a great idea.

The price is a bit spendy IMO, as is the case with the majority of JL Audio equipment, but you do get one heck of a product.

If you are just considering a single woofer, you might consider locating it behind the seat (in a std. cab), if you can. A single 10" woofer in a sealed box would average . 75 to 1 cubic foot of air volume depending on the particular woofer, and trust me that is not a very large box.

David,
In the front doors I used the Boston Acoustics 6. 5 Proseries 2ways. It is mounted in an adapter plate that fits with the tweeter above the woofer. These speakers come with their own crossovers that I hooked into a 2 channel Alpine V12 T757. These speakers are the best I've ever used and sound amazing. you however need a large clear 2 channel amp to push them.
I used a second V12 T757 Amp to power the seat sub. These amps are huge with a built in fan to cool the electronics. Also used Monster RCA's and cable all around.
Here is the link for the speakers: http://www.bostonacoustics.com/ProductsPage. asp?ProductID=59&SpecID=4&SeriesID=20
Here is the Link for the Amps: http://www.alpine1.com/html/details. asp?serial=1078&head=40.
By the way these amps fit perfectly under the driver and passenger seats.

I concur with Cooker about the cost and benifits concerning a subseat in a standard cab. Coming from a crewcab I had a Kicker 10" Solarbaric sub box behind the rear seat. Cost me about half as much as this, But It wouldn't work with the new QC. (in the garage it sits) Also if you put stuff under your seat you shouldn't put anything where the sub seat is. You could damage it.

I always look for an excuse to drive somewhere. Either to listen to the rattle of the Cummins or the new Sound System. Overall Im pleased with both.

I second the suggestion of the stealth box. I just put in a new Eclipse head unit with JL's top of the line XRR'S tweeters-(mounted on the pillars)and woofers in doors. Soundstreams in the rear doors and the stealth box under the center seat. All powered by an Extant 3300. The Jl's are made by Canton of Germany. Canton use to sell in the US but no longer. I had Canton's for years. I have had Bostin Acoustics, ADS'S,Alpine's, Soundstreams, JBL's,JL's and Cantons. I have found the JL's and Cantons to be the best. JBL'S were next.

Since I put the new 4" BD exhaust on the system seems to be drowned out. I did the straight pipe route. TOO much resonance. Gotta get a muffler so I can appreciate my system again.

Just my educated opinion.

I highly recommend that you check out MiniDisc players. I have a Sony 6-disc MiniDisc changer in my truck, and I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. The head unit in the dash controls the MiniDisc changer, and it's also a CD player. I have no cassette player, cassettes are obsolete in my opinion! I have a home MiniDisc recorder. MiniDiscs hold 74 minutes, so with six of them in the player, there's is over 7 hours of music without repeating a song. Put it in the "shuffle" mode, and it will pick any song from any disc. It has a buffer that holds ten seconds of music, so the thing will be in the process of changing discs while a song is ending, and the next song starts up with no delay. The player is very small, I have it on home made brackets on the hump in front of the center seat, just behind the shift lever. I can change out 5 discs while the 6th one is playing, and I can do it by feel without taking my eyes off the road. I have about 50 discs in 3 boxes that are within easy reach while driving, and I don't have to mess with opening jewel cases; just pull them out and pop them in. MiniDiscs are smaller and much more durable and convenient compared to CD's. No worries about scratching them or getting them dirty, either. Another cool feature: You can program the name of the disc and the song, and the head unit displays them. That makes it easy when trying to find a particular song. Also, there are some cool editing features when you're recording with MiniDiscs, and they won't skip as easily as CD's when driving on rough roads.
I almost exclusively play MiniDiscs in my truck, I even find that CD's are a hassle, now! Sorry if this sounds like a sales pitch, but I think it's the only way to go.

My 1st post!! Yippe!! I have a very compentent stereo installer here in Wyoming. They did a killer instal on my '99 QuadCab. Rockford. mids in both front & rear doors, and they cut Rockford tweeters into the front & rear pillars. Not sure of the brand, but a sub-box under drivers side of rear seat houses 12" JL sub. I just ordered the center seat replacement also, it will get aJl sub also. All powered by Rockford sub-amp, and a Rockford power amp". My head unit is an Alpine CDA-D855, but I would wait as the 2001 model D857 will be out soon. Or even better, Alpine has an in-dash MP3 player scheduled for July. I already am on the waiting list. Well, there's my rant... . Just something to ponder

PS Hope to get a better Signature in time

There is a place down here called "Car Toys" and they custom built a box to go behind the seat of my single cab truck, granted this takes up the space behind the seat, but they built the box to where i can still use my hanging baskets... . the box cost 150 and the two speakers cost 100 a piece
