Considering new purchase...

Just bought from the widow of the original owner a 1992 Dodge W250 LE 4X4 Cummins 5 speed manual with 69,000 original miles... . been looking for 6 months or so and friends have been harassing be to get a Cummins for a lot longer than that... been towing my old Vintage Power Wagons to shows with a Gas W200 beefed up... I am familiar with the pitfalls of the Getrag and have researched the Advance Adaptors NV4500 conversion but the truck shifts good and I would like to prolong the low mileage Getrag for the time being and was therefor wondering in addition to the reccomendations to over fill by a quart... what specific types of oils TDR members might suggest as an alternative to the 5-30 motor oil stated in the manual. Thanks in advance... Roger in Vermont

Roger welcome :) I have used Mobil 1 5-30 for the last 310,000 in my '93 and it's doing just fine!

Have fun with your "new" rig, GW

Just resist the temptation to turn the fuel up. The last getrag truck i turned up lost the transmission about 3k miles after doing it. NV4500 went in and all is good from there on out.

Overfill by 1-1. 5qts, and enjoy. I have BOMBed 3 trucks with Getrags, and have had no ill effects. Just be careful how you use the power. If you decide to ditch the Getrag, let me know ;).

I had a 90 w250 with 5 speed Getrag ,, changed fluid about every 50k , had the fuel turned up a bit , put over 270000 ,miles on it , still had original cluch and working just fine when I sold it
