While I am hardly an expert on the VP44, I have a tendancy to agree with Nathan. IMHO, you either have a VP44 that's a keeper or you have a weak unit, that would have died along time ago. Since you have 186,000 miles on the truck and presumably the same pump, I'd say it's a keeper. That being said, I wouldn't ride around all the time with any fueling box set at max. power. You are asking the pump to perform outside it's specifications and it may hurt the pump in the long run. That's why I run what I have in my truck. IMHO, large injectors and a low level fueling box, such as the EZ, are much less strain on the VP44 rather than running a high output box all the time, to receive the same results. While I have a TST PM3 Comp. box installed as well, I leave this for play only, not for use as a daily driver.
One thing you do not want to do with a major fueling box is to quickly take it up to redline and then just let off the go pedal. It will last much longer if you ease into the throttle and then ease out of the throttle, as the VP44 gets it's lubrication from the fuel. Just my $0. 02 .
