Just bought an 04 Ram 3500...

I just bought an 04 Ram 3500 QC 4X4 SLT DRW and it's my first diesel, can anyone give me some advice on the truck that I need to watch out for? The guy I bought it from took GREAT care of it and I got a great deal on it. I basically am saying that I know nothing about diesels and will read any and ALL advice you all have for me. Thanks in advance!!!!!!

The new Diesels like yours really don't require any special care or consideration. Follow the maintenence schedule and drive. The only thing extra that I do is add an additive to the fuel w/ each fill up for extra lubricity to the pump. The search feature is a great resource if you have lots of time...

Thanks for the welcome, I have been a member for a few months now, I have been searching for a Ram CTD for about 6 months now, a friend suggested joining this site to help me look. One thing i'll point out is that when I bought my first cummins, I was worried that when towing my 15k trailer I had to use the o/d off button and the highway rpms were like 2900, But as many people will tell you It is OK to run your cummins at redline. This engine is severly de-tuned for the dodge, and the reality is that 3200 rpm is ho-hum for a cummins



Soooo... . drive it like you stole it!! Mine loves it and begs for more:-laf

The third gens run a little warm on the turbo take a couple secs to let it cool before shut down. I back off and coast, if I can, into parking spot then unhook seatbelt, grab my stuff, shut off ac, then shut off engine. If you are towing/hard on the throttle give it a couple minutes.

I dunno if mine will be coming or not. She's still trying to get ok with all the truck stuff. Her biggest thing is me sled pulling my truck. :-laf She don't like that since its my daily driver. Bring your girl reguardless, and like I said if you want the guy to drop the truck @ Meacham's I'll be happy to pick y'all up on my way over to Lebanon once I get off @ noon. Remember the shop doesn't close until noon and the fun won't start until shortly after then.
