Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Just curious to what your temp gauge is reading??

Ive been following the disscsuions about the thermostat I watched mine and I figureded it was reading below 190 I think I might have a 180 has anybody replaced thiers with a 180 and what did your 190 read and now what does your 180 read thanks for the help!!!

Mine read 190 deg. with stock t-stat in. Now with 180 in it reads 180 deg. go figure.

Temp readings

My water temp gauge with the Oem 190* thermostat always read just below or touching the 190* center mark on the gauge.



Since the installation of the 180* thermostat, the gauge is reading about a full needle width below where it was reading before. It is a noticably lower reading.

Great then I have the 180 in already because it never really got close to the 190 except when it first opened I was just curious if when it opened did it keep it a little below 190 thanks so no thermostat change for me!!!!!!!!!!

Mine stayed to the left of the 190 mark with the OEM t'stat, now it is 1/4 to 1/8 inch more to the left and never gets near the 190. It stays about halfway between the first line and top center.

It's easy to check which one you have, loosen the t'stat housing bolts and remove it. It will have 190 or 180 stamped into the flange and it has a "captive" rubber gasket so there is no paper gasket to scrape off. I used a 1/4" ratchet to retighten ( by feel )since others have snapped off bolts using the indicated torque.

I concur.....

Just a hair below 190° and after the change it was noticeable how far it went. Good 1/8 to 1/4 icnh over. Mileage seems to have gotten worse. But then my right foot may have something to do with that.

Mine reads just below and just above the 190 mark. I'm talking the width of the needle, thats at 96 degrees outside.
