I am trying to get an idea of how much I should expect to spend in my 53 block were to crack. I have read about owners repairing the crack for as little as $1,000 to owners who paid $14,000 for a new motor due to going through the dealer. One owner recently wrote about how he paid $2700 for a new block when he contacted Cummins. If I were to REALLY do my homework and shop around for the best price, how much would I have to pay for a new 55 or 56 block? I am not too keen on a repair. If mine goes, I will pay for a whole new block or junk the rig altogether.

Thanks for the input

There is a 56 block in the classified ads for $800 as I type.

Check it out.
