your right they aren't exact and niether is the price, you pay $600 for those . 3 differences in gear, and 15HP. + you keep paying as I said before... maintenance, clutch's, and rental cars while its down for new trannies.

dont compare an auto to a manual. lets talk apples to apples. if you are just a weekend warrior and tow less often then save the money, and buy your wife something nice. I can assure you, you wont miss 15hp, but will miss $600 out of your wallet.

Hey JD... didn't see you're a neighbor...
Hee Hee... if ya make it out to Katy area...
look for the "76" antennae ball.

As for rental cars and transmission replacements? Not ONE SINGLE transmission problem in 16,000+miles of Kick'n Stick'n in Houston Traffic, seen tripple digit speed on a rare no traffic night... transmission is not on my list of "beefs". NOW THE THIN PAINT and FUSSY A/C are a different story; I'm pretty sure BOTH affect the more economical variants as well.

ETH (Exhaustgas Temp Higher), hasn't gone nuclear yet, 1148' @ 32psi hauling only MAJOR 'A. (d&d TTM)

A currently satisfied 5600 Kick'er.

I think some of you guys missed azcummins' original question/point when he started this thread. He was comparing a 5spd to a 6spd,not an auto to a 6spd. Just trying to stay on topic.

Mike-
Thanks for the refocus. I wouldn't touch an auto even if it said ALLISON on it. Stick all the way. That way I can heel-toe down shift! heheheheheheh...

We just went from a 1998. 5 24v to a 2001 HO. Huge difference in power, smoothness of the power, acceleration, especially at freeway speeds, and pulling power is no comparison either. And the 6 speeds really gives me good gear selection while pulling.

And that is comparing a well broke in 2500 with 4. 10's and a New HO with 4. 10s that is not broke in. And the fuel mileage seems to be the same if not better on the HO. So the way I figure it, I get the extra HP and torque for free.

You either drove a bad truck or your truck, because of bombing is just a lot stronger and you are not comparing apples to apples. (My modified broke in truck is stronger than a stock truck, gee go figure)

Try a new 2001 regular 5 sp. and then a new 2001 HO, with the same gears on both trucks (4. 10 or 3. 55) and tell us if you can see the difference then.

What I have noticed is the first few gears of the 6 sp run out of rpm before you feel the power, but 4-6 is where the power comes in. Once above 25MPH or so, I seem to have a 2 sp, using only 5th and 6th while empty.
