i just got a 2006 HO 2500 quad 4:11 gears auto towing pack , 4x4 off road pack, any thing to look out for except dc. what oil 15,40 like my 2001. any advice wold be apreciated. thanks, john
Some info. that you may already know. Do not add any device to increase power. Many are learning the hard way that DC will VOID the power train warranty.
honestly the truck is awsome. im not shore of the power but i traded a 2001 4x4 2500 quad, and with the edge juce it won't tuch the new one. so i feel adding power is not worth the risk. the new truck is not broke in yet, only 105 miles, but the little sneeks of throtal stabs its like whow. and the trans is a lot firmer, tighter shilfts. but man warranty? beter not have problems, thats why i bought the new one. so i dont have to worry. thanks
Yes go with 15w40 oil, make sure it's diesel rated. Delo 400 and Rotella are great non-synthetic choices. If you decide on synthetic later there's Premium Blue Extreme or better yet Mobil Delvac 1 or Amsoil HDD 15w40.
thanks for the info, the new owners manuals suck, dont even give power ratings, cop ratio, you have to have a degre in highroglifs to understand. and im a gm trained master auto tech. full ase certs and all. the thing is useless. thats what i thought, but im not a deisel tech or a good speller, lol. but thanks anyway.
why should i sell it. i love it. and im not a dodge guy, i have had gm all my life. my dad was a gm tech. but gm cant tuch cummins. its my second and im awstruck with it.
Make sure it has the right fuel filter. I think they are changing from a 10 to 7 micron filter. I would have the dealer put it in writing. I'm having problems with "contaminated fuel" and warrany won't cover it. 10 micron lets stuff clog the injectors. Also be sure they have installed the rubber vent tubes on the roll over fuel tank valves either at factory or dealer to keep out water. If it didn't have the rubber tubes put on at the factory then they are to check the system for contamination and remove the contamination before it clogs the injectors. Their fix for "contaminated fuel" once it hits the injectors is not a cheep fix (almost 9 grand). Good Luck!
If I knew then what I know now, I'd have pulled both front hub bearing assemblies and coated liberally with anti-seize lubricant when the truck was new. You might want to consider this.
