Ordered it from quad 4x4 and in the video he doesn't use anything to spread the frame to remove the crossmember. I have been told that you need a jack or porta power to spread the frame to get the crossmember out.

So do you think I can use a BFH to hammer it out?

I replaced one on my old 94' and it wouldn't move with out spreading the frame.

I can see why my 99' would be any different.

Also is there any other tips you guys can give me that will save time or headaches?

Jack the transmission up so the bolts clear the crossmember. Then drive it back a few inches and it comes right out. Might think about replacing the engine rear seal while you have the transmission out.

I've done two, a 95 and a 98, on both used a hammer to knock the mount up, then back, no problem really. But it did have to go up first.

Good luck, RR

Seems like they vary - some almost drop out when the bolts are removed, some - like mine - are *very* tight and nearly impossible to remove without a spreader - unless you enjoy beating the crap outta the crossmember with a big hammer... ;) :D

The crossmember sits on tapered bosses on the frame rails. The cross member need to be knocked UP, then back. I do not recommend spreading the rails. If you go up first it wont be bad.

Mine took a bottle jack and a piece of wood. It also lauched out of there when we did not want it to thank god it didn't hit any of us.

Well I just got done, everything went smooth.

Thanks for the tip on taking the crossmemeber up then out, that worked like a charm.

Everything seems good, but to me now I have more engine noise in the cab.

I thought I put the boots back on the way they were.

Any ideas on what might cause this?
