Just Got Rear ended- Need Advice!!

Hello all, I just got rear ended where a car wound up under my truck #@$%! . In doing so he damaged my exhaust pipes, squashed it. I think there was no other damage other than a slight dent on bumper. I was wondering if anyone had a similar situation ever happen to them and what damage other than the obvious should I watch for. The car almost went to the windshield of his car. I had the bumper insert on which took the brunt of the damage with my exhaust. NOW, I am very interested in now purchasing an after market dual stainless exhaust system but do not know whats the BEST, Help in this area is very much needed. I appreciate all feedback greatly, Thanks everyone...

Did the driver get far enough under to hit the rear axle? Was it a square hit of were they to one side? If you have a factory tow hitch check it, it is also the rear crossmember.

RTG, My buddy was rear ended once like you and other than the obvious I would check the axle(if the car made it that far), driveshaft,transfercase etc. My buddy that got hit had a bent driveshaft and bent the leaf shackles and messed up the rear of the transfer case. She hit so hard it shoved the axle forward just enough to bottom out the driveshaft and bend it along with messing up his transfer case. I don't know exactly what was wrong with it, might have cracked the back of the housing. But it was all just slight enough you couldn't tell just by looking around, the shop had the driveshaft out and just happened to check it and found out it was slightly bent so they checked the Tcase and it was messed up too. Might have been other stuff, but I don't remember. Good Luck

My brother has the Silverline dual exhaust which has the 5" pipe that splits to dual 4" out the back... . sounds awesome & looks mean from the back.

If he got under you check the spare as he might have damaged the rim. Just a thought.

about same thing to me also. bumper with a small twist and ding. insurance paid $1800. put the $ in my pocket. could have picked up a rear bumper at a junk yare for $300. just never got around to in.

A couple of years ago my 03 dually was struck from the rear by a Mustang doing about 80mph. I was doing about 35mph. Small dent to bumper, crimped fender underneath the plastic wheel fender and a small crack in the plastic. Didn't look too bad, but insurance paid out nearly $4000. 00 for repair work. The Mustang was totalled with the engine pushed back into the firewall and the transmission bell housing cracked. I was very impressed with the amount of punishment these trucks can take from the rear! Wouldn't want to try the front though!

I had an issue with my 02 gasser that took a while to show its ugly head

I was stopped and got rear ended, the other guy was doing about 35 when he hit me. No real damage I had dual pipes, he pushed the right one up into the bottom of the bed put some scuffs on the bumper. I wasn't going to report it to his insurance as it wasn't a big deal. 2 months down the road I go to make a left turn but there were no brakes. Luckily no one was coming in the other direction and I was able to use the e-brake to get me stopped. I opened the brake fluid canister and it was dry, not just empty, DRY! I bought some brake fluid and started pumping the brake to see if I could find any leaks.

When the exhaust pipe got pushed forward it snagged on the brake line and cracked it ever so slightly. $600 repair reported to the guys insurance along with the rest of the damage.

don't forget to do a 4 wheel alinement,it might have damaged the rear end ,one tube could have been bent.

Not nice... don't know about the pipe's, but the answer is: CHECK every thing from rear bumper to back of cab... everything... tailgate, wheels, EVERYTHING!

I appreciate all of the great advise, I'm going to crawl under truck today and give it a very close inspection. I haven't seen any fluid leaks on driveway at all, but it really looked like that $125 tow hitch insert, forced the car to ride it in on a steeper angle, avoiding alot of damage, so I think...

Was this exhaust a direct fit replacement or Mods were needed. I went to a muffler shop near by and they said they would put in my after-market system for me , for about 100 dollars. ( spot welding pipes in addition to clamps).

check your turbo. If it hit the exhaust right, it can push it forward and damage the turbo flange

I got rear ended in Nov. the bumper and the hitch took all of the impact, it hit hard enough to shift the bed and damaged the drivers seat. It rocks back and forth now. The insurance company said there was no way the seat was damaged in this accident and are denying this part of my claim Don't know what recourse I have when they won't pay.

was the damage immediately noticeable, the 2" gap was gone and the bed was smooshed up into the cab?

In my accident the bed did not contact the cab. The shifted bed is not noticeable by just looking at it. There is about 3/16" difference between the cab and the bed from one side to the other.
