Well to start, I'm finally a member of the TDR!! I've surfed the sight many times and have found a huge wealth of info and advice. Huge thanx to all!!

I hope my truck shows up in my signature block, however, It's a '94 3500 with around 846,000+ kilometers on it (not all mine, only about 80,000 are me) I just had a $8100. 00 repair bill #@$%! I don't know what the heck happened. Just fueled up, added my shot of performance Stanadyne, drove 8 blocks... . lost power... . huge black exhaust cloud... ... no throttle..... temp started to climb to redline (it was -35*F I'm up here in the frozen North Alberta)

Lift pump dead, fuel heater/strainer dead, mechanical failure inside injection pump, turbo siezed (was marginal at best only 9 PSI on a good day)

Yeah it was a long list;

Injector pump $1700

Turbo $1300

215 injectors $126 x6

Lift pump $380

Fuel heater strainer $420

Thermostat $65

3/8" fuel lines (old 5/16" were too small to feed 215's, created a suction vacuum) all the way up from the tank $250 ish

Dropped and flushed fuel tank ( suspected bad fuel?????) $290

Valve adjustment and general tune up $400 ish

Daylight driving light module $125

30+ hours labour

tax $500+

Man thats a lot of stuff to get replaced.

Hope that $1300 turbo wasnt just a factory holset hx35/wh1c, or they saw you coming on that one.

Prices seem high, except for the injection pump, depending on what was done. I assume you're quoting Canadian dollars. That would account for higher numbers than we're used to seeing ;)

Geez, what a laundry list. On the other hand, should be no more worries on those components for a long time.

Well in US Dollars it should be more like

$400 for a set of 6 injectors

$650 for a BOMBed replacement turbo from Piers

$100 for Lift Pump

$15 Thermostat

$6 Prefilter strainer (probably not what they replaced for you though)

Welcome to TDR by the way :)

Unfortunately the repairs were all done at the dealership, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I don't have a garage to work in and there were no other repair shops to go to. The closest major center is Edmonton 3 hours down the road.

I live literally at the end of the road, if you were to keep going you'd end up in the lake. It's called Cold Lake for a reason.

The turbo is stock unfortunately :{ I would have loved to talk to Banks or someone else about a bigger/better one. But no time to mess around, the truck is my bread and butter and time is money.

On the possative side, the truck runs like a dream compared to the way it was, and many of the biggest componants were on my mind for the last couple of years, just wasn't expecting all of it at once. Almost have to learn how to drive it all over again as it was like pushing a three legged dog up hill!

if you suspect bad fuel do you still have the receipt?

I've still got it, it says diesel, but lots of guys fuel up there w/ no problems, so I'm on my own. Mechanic said the exhaust smelled weird and would account for high temps and black smoke. He suspected gasoline in the diesel but I think it was my anti gell and Stanodine addatives he was smelling. Dumped and flushed just to be safe, as it's not my normal fueling location, and I won't be back just in case. Too big of a bill to chance it again IMO. Haven't heard of anyone else having problems though in the Fuel Station's defence but no more for me there!!

Horse Crap!!!!!!!!!! That fuel station is the reason ... they gave you bad fuel or at least a ton of water in the diesel. Hammer their *****!!!!!!!! You have the receipt, you were only a little way from their station. You and I and thousands of other people use Standyne all the time with no problems. Don't give up!!!!
