Just how accurate is GPS supposed to be?

I'm guessing...not as accurate as I thought as we certainly didn't get wet last night!

Ha Ha, the same thing happens on Deer Isle, NB Canada...the ferry landing is about a half mile off from what the GPS shows. Had a flatlander on a bike argue with me for twenty minutes about that while I was TRYING to tell him where the ferry really was going to be.....he did cave in and listen after I informed him that was the last one for the day and he better be making a decision....:D

Probably accurate but the map overlay drawing is off. Typically a GPS is within 20~30 feet. That said, bounced signals or lost satellites can affect the accuracy too.

I lost a satellite once, when out a night and looked for weeks for it. Most new GPS' are 12 channel or so and accuracy is very good. What is not good in some areas is the map program that is loaded into the device.

I had a Tom Tom for many years and many map updates and it would not let me drive through our communities gate!!! Blocked the road going both directions at the gate house.
