I have a jardine's 4" exhaust system I haven't installed yet. How bad is the exhaust drone I keep seeing several people mention. Also how common is it to upgraded exhaust sytems? Maybe this would be a good poll.

exhaust drone

:D No difference with the four inch dynomax. Went from no muffler to a 4 inch dynomax and its about the same. Richard

What Drone?

If there is drone in my 4" BullyDog Exhaust I don't hear it. Putting 5" BullyDog Exhaust on this weekend... YEAH BABY ! Bigger is Better !! Thanks ADT !!

:D

Mine is just 3. 5" dia. replacing the resonator / muffler and ending behind the rear wheels. The guy who had the truck before me dualled it . I hated it, and it was rusting anyway, so I had a muffler shop run 3. 5" all the way from the resonator connection for $85. 00. I think it sounds great, and I barely have any drone in the cab.

No exhaust pipe envy here.

I have the drone in my truck and I run the Jardine system. The drone is that annoying. You do notice it. Why, I think because the muffler is loud at that RPM. I left the plant and layed on the throttle for 200yards. The next day a co-worker says man your truck is loud. :D :D :

The factory system was very quiet. All that was heard was the Cummins going and cummin:rolleyes:

Now my truck has big truck sound:D :D :D :D :D :D

I hope she does not read this... ... ... ... .

I would rather hear the drone than the OL in my ear. :-{}

I have a DD 4" and HX-40 and with my ATP blankets I can hear a little bit of drone, but I think more of it is just more exhaust noise than anything else. And I only notice it when I'm well above 2000 RPM, like pulling a hill or something.

Otherwise it isn't much of an issue.

Fixed the drone........

Originally I had the Jardine system on my 01. The weight of the truck (11K lbs) intensified the drone to unbearable at times. I added the resonator and all was fine. It did seem to tone it down a bit. On the 02 we puit in Rip's 4" with the allied muffler. I mounted the muffler where I put the resonator on my 01, right after the first straight pipe, and no drone at all.

I really love the sound of the allied muffler and decided to put one on the 01. So I took off the muff & resonator from Jardine and Mounted the allied muff in the same place as the 02. No drone here either.

So the lesson is mount the muffler forward, right to the first section of straight pipe and the use the other section to go the piece over the axle.

Do yourself a favor and use strap clamps too. That way if you need to you can take it apart. Jardines clamps will move far enoung out of the way to stay off the joints. If your worried about the muff being unsupported in the front don't, 15K miles on the 02 and no sag. You can always turn the transmission support so it comes out the back if your worried.

Lots of good feedback!

This is giving me some great feedback. I am not near as worried about the drone as I was! Keep it coming! Thanks.

Thanks to John above, my Duallie with the Banks' 4" pipes, and a 30" Magna-Flow, plus a 14" Magna-Flow have totally cured the resonance, drone and excessive cab noise. It's truly a winning system now. It isn't any louder inside now than the OEM system was.

:D Oo.
