I have the JRE 4" exhaust on my 01' QC 4x4 Auto. I love the way it sounds but i was thinking about ditching the muffler to make it even louder. I have not heard an ISB with no muffler, how loud is it?. My main concern is cab noise. The Jannetty kit is great, its just loud enough in the cab to let you know it is there. Will no muffler make the sound in the cab really annoying?. I know this is a question that is really based on personal opinion. One persons idea of "Too loud" is anothers "Perfect" sound. So i guess i am looking to take a poll of other members preference. Basically if your Ram has no muffler, or you have heard one with no muffler, whats your opinion? Too loud? Not much louder then a JRE, Banks, Etc, kit? Sounds great? Too loud in the cab? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Aside from a Psychotty kit, my engine is stock.

Love mine with no muffler. The turbo makes more cab noise than the exhaust does.

I have a DD and I took the muffler off for about 4 months. It definately makes the truck sound like a BIG rig. I had to put mine back on because when the Blue box activates it was WAY TOO LOUD with the back glass open.

I have removed the muffler and resonator from my ETH and replaced it with a straight pipe. (This was several months ago) In the cab, you can hear it when you get on it, but it isn't loud, just a different sound. I love the sound, and could never put the muffler back in. But I am careful in cities and around cops. Cause it is very loud outside. I have gotten the finger several times when passing people, especially the ones with their windows open #ad

I've been "straight piped" for about 3 months now and I love it! Mine is 3" and they have a little crisper sound than a 4" straight. The 4" is deeper sounding. I'm one of these guys that likes everything loud, so I may not be a good advisor? It's not too loud with the windows up, but it still sings to you at 75 mph. It doesn't sound really loud from the cab, but when you go under a bridge with the power on you realize it really is pretty loud. It's really sweet when you're pulling a load and mashing the pedal!

I ran mine for three days without a muffler... sounded like an Army Duece and a Quarter. Didn't much care for it. The BD has a nice deep tone which I love.

My vote: a BD 4"

Had the 3" strait pipe put in place of the muff and resonator. It is great! With the windows up you can't tell much difference.
If you put them down you can hear it rattling the glass of the nieghbors windows!
Under bridges it is scary!
I think it helped the spool up too.

LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!!!

Hmm, so far it looks like it would be better with the muffler out. I will wait and see, need to talk to a friend at the muffler shop about getting a 4" inch piece to fit in place of the muffler.

I ran a straight pipe for a few months. The sound got on my nerves at times, but I liked it for the most part. My wife on the other hand hated it!! It also didnt look very good when my 5 year old stood in the yard with his hands over his ears when I drive up. The compromise was a 4" Jardine muffler and a 4" tailpipe. Behind a gutted cat, it sounds great. Just enough noise to keep me happy, yet quiet enough to keep the wife happy.

This is a good post. I will be going to a 4" exhaust. Had thought about getting rid of the cat and muffler. My question, since this is my wife's truck and our main pull vehicle, is how loud does it get. From this post I gather it's pretty loud. Louder than I want. Plus, when you pull into a r. v. campground you want to keep the piece with your neighbors, not blast them out.

I'm comparing this to Harleys. I like a Harley, the sound of a Harley... within reason. But some of those bikes are way too loud. Chews up the peaceful harmony as they go by... . usually while reving their engines so they can say to the world, "hey, look at me, I'm way too cool for myself".

Same thing with some of the car stereos. I hate even admitting this but I grew up in the era of disco! Yep, often is the time I flew down the road in my Pinto station wagon, with the BeeGees on the 8 track blowing out of my crappy speakers with 'Staying Alive'. To my credit, because my stereo was so crappy, the only people I could offend was anyone stupid enough to be in the car with me. That is not the case in this day and time. I was out feeding the horses which were in our holding pasture along side the road. I live out in the country. Anyway, as the horses were eating I was sitting on the tractor reading the mail. From way off I hear boom da boom da boom. I'm real confused as to what this sound is. It get's closer and closer and louder and louder. You could feel the "da booms" in your chest. Around the corner comes one of the neighbor kids in his Honda with his new God fearing stereo up full. He goes by. I'm looking at him with my eyes wide, so are my horses, and my neighbors cows... if you could see in my neighbor's chicken houses his chickens probably had a similar look on their faces... not much scarier than 30,000 chickens with a "what the heck is that" look on their faces. Can a chicken stampede be far way? Anyway, next day he goes by and the same thing. On the third day I talked to him about his stereo. He's a nice young kid. Now he turns the "da boom" machine down as he goes by. Not a problem.

Guess I see taking the muffler off my Dodge in the same light. Guess I won't be setting off anyone's car alarm.

My muffler and cat are going down the road as soon as the wife's car comes back from the shop.
I figure if it's too loud I can always add a muffler, if I don't try a straight pipe I'll always wonder what it would have sounded like.

I know one thing, When I get the transmission straightened out I'm going 4" split into dual pipes out the back. I had a Harley 10 years ago and the boom boom boxes in these cars make me sick as do drag pipes. My pal has this exhaust on his ISB and its the best sounding thing I've heard next to a Hemi.

I took my muffler off and left the resonator and it's OK the sound at idle is kind of wierd, but when you get into it it's loud. The nice thing is you do have some control if in an area where you think it's offensive stay off the go pedal use some dicretion and you can have the best of both worlds. JMHO.

I only know my truck with the straight pipe.
The sound from inside the truck is very different than
from outside. My truck whisles and grunts like a big
rig from the tailpipe end. But inside the cab there is
no whisle and it has a kinda roaring/rumbling sound.
On long trips down the highway, the sound becomes a humming
bird that won't fly away.
It's not too loud to get a ticket, but my kids and tell
it's me from 1/2 mile away. They say it sounds like the
dump trucks around here.
Good luck

It is too bad we cannot get a valve to go around the muffler and the times we want a muffler have it go thru it...
