in the bed of the truck and installed one of those push pull pumps. seems like an ok set up. 85 gal aluminum tank. a couple of questions:

i didn't get a fuel filter on the tank itself. is this mandatory. most of the equipment i use is rental. some is my own. are the filters on the equipment sufficient?

should i install a filter of some kind?

how often are people stopped/cited for using the off road fuel in their own vehicles? i know, i know it's illegal to put off road in your vehicle. i am just curious what the experiences have been.

does flying J sell off road?

thanks. scott.

Here in CA I've been checked twice in my big rig, by IRS agents at truck scales, and have seen them checking farmers pick-ups twice in the central valley and once in northern CA,at a livestock auction. I'm told that the dye is hard to dilute to a level that can't be seen. (several tankfuls) :(

Filtration Sounds good however I can tell ya that fines have been 1000 dollars for every gallon that could be on board at any given time ... empty or half full it doesn't matter. So your max fine is $12,500 even if you had a gallon left on board. Last year a contractor I know was pulled over and the tank was "Dipped" ad sure enough BUSTED with yard fuel. This was in his F350 with dual tanks and a 100 gallon in the bed. He went to court over (Day off to go to Mass) it as the fine was absolutly huge (0ver 16 grand) and it was reduced as he showed the court that he had run out of the fuel he purchased in new york and rather than waiting for assistance he pumped in 5 gallons in his primary tank.

The next exit he fueld up again and started to take off back onto the highway. It sooted (had some mods) and he was pulled over and the highway official pulled out a weighted cotton rope like thing and sent it in and it came back positive (red) for yard fuel. He was Rippin mad and that did not help things so summons it is. Apparently that dye even when diluted will still show.

The court showed sympathy in his situation and the fine was reduced to the HONEST 5 gallons ... ... ... yep $5,000 dollars. That hurt him real bad as I remember HE was even out plowing snow for us and had let two guys go. When I asked him "Why the hell you out here pushin' snow" That is when he told me the bad news.

just filled up my 85 gal off road tank. all they had was high sulphur. if this fuel somehow gets into my 04. 5, what will happen?

how about the 12v's?

Shendren - it's possible it could trash the catalytic converter - assuming it didn't fall off yet ;) Other than that it will soot up your oil slightly more due to the higher sulfur.
