greetings, all
just a post to tell you all that the bombing has started!!! (insert fanfare here).
the diff cover went on very easily. put in some amsoil and it seems to be leak tight... . we'll see.
i had downloaded the install from the tdr website for those insights (which were appreciated). and you were right, rob, removing the spare made all the difference. i could almost sit up comfortably in front of (back of?) the diff.
a big thumbs up to mag hytec for having their install instructions on the web. i had a false start last week (didn't have enough gear lube) and i guess had mis-placed the mag-hytec instructions. a quick click-click and i had the torque values and the amount of gear lube for my particular diff.
my two cents... . if i had to do it again i probably wouldn't waste my time with the gasket scraper. the wire brush made quick work of cleaning up the mating surface. i covered the gears with newspaper (lint free) which made cleaning the wayward gasket material very easy to clean up. i didn't have a lint free rag, but i don't think some lint fibers will make much of a difference to the diff's longetivity.
oh, yeah... . and it looks COOL!!
transmission pan and guages are next. gotta wait for tedkidd to get back from vacation for the dual bypass mount and ss lines. then the go fast stuff from hvac.
my wallet's already feeling thinner!!
ram on!

regards,
peter
