new guy questions

Lower EGT's

I installed the 275's first and was impressed with the increased power over stock. Today I installed the Powermax setup and I'm really impressed. Truck is definatly quicker than my 96 duallie. Now for the questions. The EGT that came with the system is confusing. The temp doesn't correspond to anything I'm used to in my 96 with mechanical gauge. It appears I'm not getting accurate numbers to the display and the system defuels because of supposed high egt's. I know that we have heard that 1300-1350 is the max egt but for short-a few seconds- do I have to worry? I'm not towing with this truck. 2nd question-the temp sender for the trans fluid is installed in the 1/8" threaded hole in the trans on the right side front just above the pan. Temp readings after warm up run 175-185 f. My 96 has the sender located in the pan and crusing around town it stays around 150 (never above 175) and after lock up it drops to about 135 evan towing. Is it because of the sender location or what? Truck (99) has 70,000 miles with original lift and injector pumps.

Bill, do you still have the stock exhaust and turbo? What about your air filter? Have you taken the snorkel out between your fender and airbox? (quite restrictive). Do you have an ETH?

At what temperature is your PM set to defuel at? I am not very familiar with the PM. I would think with RV injectors you should be able to turn your PM up fairly high before you start having EGT problems. . . unless you still have your stock exhaust w/muffler and/or a paper airfilter in the stock airbox. What settings are you starting to have temp problems?

Another thing, after your engine is warm, what EGT temp do you usually see at idle? Mine is around 300F, if yours is off from that by quite a bit maybe you do have a gauge accuracy problem. I assume you are reading from the exhaust manifold pre-turbo.

Vaughn- yes the exhaust is stock. The intake is stock except for a K&N filter. I'm going to install a BHAF (paper) this week to try that. I asked earlier if anyone had any luck lowering egt's by using a bigger exhaust. TST says they have checked bigger exhaust out and it did not lower the egt's any. As far as the settings- I am getting flashing decimals on the egt gauge at power level one with 3/4 throttle on acceleration. I have deactivated the egt/fuel cut back on the system. I plan on talking to tst on manday. The roads have been wet here since I put this system in saturday so other than one hard shot on level 9 (holy sh--) I have not been able to play much. Oo.
