After reading all the horror stories i figured i better secure my KDP, I Purchased Harold's KDP Jig, Nice kit came with everything except the fan wrenches, i was able to pick a set up at the local NAPA store, This jig is different than most i had seen in pictures in that the jig is set up to drill the whole at an angle, this allows you to tap in on the end of the KDP and seat it if has started to move, i actually had to tap mine in some felt like about an 1/8 in. once seated i was able to screw the Allan head screw down on top of it. all in all the job was allot easier than i expected 1 hour start to finish.

I do feel better now

I plan to do this as well but Ill remove the cover & use a tab Ill make joe george was kind enough to send me info on this

book time to R&R the front cover is 1. 5 hour acording to my mitchel estimating guide

the front main seal from cummins is a verry nice one it is like a double seal the gasket looks pretty good too its a steel or alum covered with paper laminate

the gasket & seal were like $70 including a $10 shiping charge? charged to me by the local cummins dealer

I thought I was gona get off cheaper doing it my way but I think it costs about the same oh well... I guess Ill benifit by having a new seal & gasket

Ill get to it as soon as I can it sounds like a good thing to do:(

take care

JStoll: I'd also take out the bolts that hold the timing case to the block and lock-tite them. They can come out also. I talked to the guy that bought my truck, he said that is what happened to it. A bolt came all of the way out and got caught between the cam gear and the injection pump gear. It broke the key on the crank, snapped nose off of cam, ruined the cam and injection pump gears, all 12 pushrods were bent like a bow, and the lifters exploded, he found a few of the lifters in the oil pan:--) Definately an expensive fix. I'm unsure if you have to remove the cam to get to all three of these bolts or not. I can't guarantee you that this will happen to your truck but I've heard of it happening to others and if you do a search on here, there is more than one incident of it occuring. Just wanted to let you know, I think it would be worth the time to fix it if you took the front cover off.

hey there thanks for the input I was told by joe george not to tighten the few you can get to because the others will become looser but Im sure tightening all of them is a good idea Ill look into it & do a search on incidents occuring with the bolts backing out too

thanks again
