Well I was a long time member here when I had my 99 1 ton dually. About two years ago I traded out to a 2011 2500 with the Hemi because I did not think I would be doing much towing and was doing a lot of short run town driving. Now that we are looking at getting into a fifth wheel we decided to bump back up to the 1 ton and the diesel. I got the new truck from Dave Smith in Kellog which is where my dad got the 99. I am really excited to get over there and pick it up and get back into driving a CUMMINS!!!!!

Here is the photo that the salesman sent me. It is a Laramie with the bench seat, sunroof and every other goodie that I wanted.

Congratulations!!
just got my 12 from them last winter.
2nd CTD from Dave Smith's
Hard to beat the selection and price
Ride, drive and tow is so different from my 09!!

Thanks for the welcome back. I used to be really active on here back when I was in college. Now that I am working and have three little ones the truck hobby time sure gets cut short. Really looking forward to revisiting the Cummins ownership experience. I did a lot of research and test drove a ton of trucks including the new 2013 3/4 tons. I just really liked the 12 interior layout a little bit better and obviously right now there are some good deals to move the old trucks out.

I am hoping to drive over on Thursday next week (16th) and pick it up.

Honestly my Hemi is an awesome truck. I drove from Spearfish to Omaha twice with it and both trips I averaged right at 17. 5 empty. It is a very smooth truck to drive, especially around town. Very very quiet also, which was nice after my old 5. 9 I had come out of. If I could afford to keep it and get the diesel, I would. It is also excellent for running through the forest trails and exploring. The four wheel drive is very capable for mild trail driving.

Even towing was not bad. If all I was planning to do was short tows even with a fairly heavy trailer, I would just stick with it as well. Our goal though is to get a nice fifth wheel that we can grab the kids and take them down to the Grand Canyon, over to Yellowstone, up to the Boundary Waters and all other points in between. For those long road trips like that, I want the comfort and convenience of the diesel.

The unfortunate part is that I felt like I had to pull my deal on the red truck with Dave Smith. I have been shopping all spring and have had about seven deals put down on paper and each time the offers I have gotten for my 2011 have been right between $29,000 and $30,000 for trade in. I went through it again today on the NADA guides to be sure nothing had changed. Average trade with my options is $29,250 and Clean is $30,100. I was hoping for $30,000 for trade and was willing to settle for 29,000. When I got informed it would be $26,000 I was more than a little upset as I had been very upfront from the moment I started talking to the salesman on what I needed and that if that wasn't going to be the ballpark I wouldn't waste his time and I hoped he wouldn't waste mine. Needless to say I was probably not the most polite with the manager. He quickly came up to $28,000 but really with that thousand and then the approximately $500. 00 in costs for me to drive to them to do business and the two days of missed work, I just can't call that a good deal. Not when I can essentially put almost $2500 into a deal locally and come out wiht the same or smaller loan for the identical features.

I had a deal worked on monday to do a dealer trade for one I found up in Minot. That dealership had said ok and then went ahead and sold it even after I had put my $500. 00 down with my dealer. I was not happy about that so to then have a second deal go south in two days has left me feeling very frustrated. If we didn't want the Laramie package and the bench seats I would not be so worried, but after hours of searching through the Ram websites new inventory list, I can only find five in the country right now. Two just went out the window and two out of the last three are more than a thousand miles from me. Only one is within 500 miles and it doesn't have all of the features that I was hoping to have.

Bucket seats wouldn't be a horrible thing but with five in the family it would be nice to have the extra seat for the occassional tag along. Oh well guess we will see if third time is the charm tomorrow when I shoot for another dealer trade to the local guys. Wish me luck

Intresting. Last week I was at the dealer checking out the 2013's for fun, very nice trucks. I noticed there was a 10k difference between the Hemi and Cummins equipped trucks, really got me thinking just how much is the Cummins worth to someone who doesn't tow often. I thought about going to a 4th gen Hemi but decided to keep my 04. 5 instead, thanks for the feedback though.

Just found a white Outdoorsman in Colorado and it sounds like my dealer can do the trade easily. Only thing it doesn't have that I wanted from the Laramie's is the leather heated seats. I am willing to work with that as a Katzkins interior upgrade would solve that and be very nice. I also never cared much for the chrome bumpers and mirrors etc. that the Laramie's have This way I get the black mirrors and handles and still get a nice leather seat. Can't wait to hear that it is a done deal on the trade. Price even with a leather upgrade looks like it will be saving me a couple thousand as well.

I will update with pics if I get the deal done. Actually done and not just the verbal agreement. :)

Congrats, I love my '12.

Also, IMHO these trucks just don't look right without the cab lights. That truck looks great!

Well, Just got done signing all of the paperwork. I pick it up tomorrow after work. It will go in for the hitch, bed liner and tonneau cover stuff on Wednesday and the Katzkin leather will be here around the middle of the month. I will post up pics when it is all set up.

I had B&W in my Hemi and loved it. I scheduled this one to go to the accessories shop on Wednesday to get a B&W, Line-X, Vent Visors, Tonneau Cover, Katzkin Leather seats and to transfer my Amp Research Power Boards to this truck. Then I will switch over my headrest DVD players, Bug Shield, mud flaps, BFG AT tires, Front reciever hitch and winch, Tool box and other items.

The new truck has a set of Chrome Tubular Side Steps by Mopar(R) that I will not need so I will have to see if I can sell them to someone.

Excellent!

Sounds like it will be really nice.

Well, I picked up the new White Outdoorsman and I must say that I am flat out happy with the truck. The wife is satisfied with how quiet it is compared to my old straight piped 99. I have to say that as a man who is getting older, I am much happier with the quiet truck as well.

I got my tires swapped on and also moved over my gunvault and DVD Screens. Just about have the old one cleaned out and ready to go to the dealer. Really looking forward to this new setup.

Congrats on your new truck, it looks nice and be sure to give us all the details when your finished with it, with pics please, for those of us that are stuck in the 3rd Gen time wrap need to dream. :-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

Well, I picked up my new 2012 3500 Outdoorsman on Saturday, May 11th. It is of course equipped with the Cummins Turbo Diesel.

I opted to go back to a long box as there were too many times I was wishing for the cargo space when I had the shortbox. I really like the white and gray two tone. Solid white just seemed like too much. I do think that if rock chips start taking too much of a toll on the rockers, that the gray paint may get covered by some black Line-X but for now I do like it.

Here she is at the dealership as I am doing my inspection before signing the papers.

I got to keep my old 2500 over the weekend to finish moving my stuff over. Here are the two trucks in front of my garage.

I really don't like the huge amount of advertising that they try to get out of a new truck. I wish I would have thought to tell them ahead of time to not bother putting their dealer stickers on. Took me about an hour to take the one off the windshield, the one off the tailgate, and the residue on the tailgate and the back window from the dealership we traded it from.

-

After the sticker removal and cleanup, I took the trucks to get the tires swapped. I have BFG AT's in the 285/70/R17 that I had just put on the green one in March. I moved them over and put the stock 265/70/R17's onto the green one. I had arranged that and the other swap of accessories in my deal with the dealership.

-

I also moved my bug shield over right away. I think the shield and the tires made a huge impact on the look of the truck.

-

Then I transferred over the mud flaps as well.

-

-

Then off came the chrome steps to make way for the powerboards that are going on tomorrow.

-

-

Both of my Outdoorsman Trucks had the same interior so I put the standard factory headrests from the new truck into the green one and moved my cut in video screen headrests over to the new truck. I will wire them up once I have the Katzkin Leather installed. Supposed to be around the 17th or 18th depending upon shipping.

-

I also moved over the EZ Down. I don't understand for how cheap that little strut is, why it is not a standard feature on the trucks. It makes it so convenient and safe when opening the tailgate.

-

This morning it went to the shop to get Line-X sprayed in the bed. They will also be putting in a B&W Gooseneck hitch. The powerboards will be installed. A new tonneau cover will be put on once the Line-X is dry. I am picking up in-channel vent visors to put on as well. The two front side windows will be tinted.

My personal projects list for the week includes

1. Electric Tailgate Lock Kit

2. In-Bed trailer plug wiring kit

3. Toolbox installed after Line-X

4. Hi-Lift rack and jack mounted similar to green truck setup

5. Under bed rail lighting for when tonneau cover is on.

6. OEM Auxilliary switch kit for the dash. This will control rear Video Screens, Winch Power points front and rear, and any off road lights that I figure out how to add down the road after I finally choose a grill guard.

7. Front Reciever Hitch for Winch

8. Grill guard if I can finally decide on one.

9. Get my music library loaded to the stereo HDD.

I will add pictures of those projects when they are done.

Once the Katzkin leather arrives I will get that installed. That will include heated seats that I will have to wire. I have not decided on where to mount those switches, but I am leaning towards trying to do something on the sides of the seats. If anyone has done one I would love to see pics.

I am planning to wire up the rear video screens and install the Lockpick to control them after the leather is in. I will also post pics of that when I do it.

Future wants are some LED off-road light bars, possibly a B&W Cab protector style headache rack, and some auxilliary reverse lights that angle out to the sides more.

Cowboy Medic, that's another great looking truck! Two questions about your accessories:

1. Mudflaps: it looks like yours are the molded ones (I had the Mopar molded ones on my '03)--when I inquired at the parts counter about front molded mudflats for the '13, the counterman said they only fit without the fender flares (you have them). Are yours Mopar, or third-party aftermarket, or not molded?

2. OEM auxiliary switches: these became available options on the Longhorn after mine was built, so questions include where/how do they mount--are they an additional panel, or do they replace the stock panel with more of the switches being functional (I don't have my truck yet , but in the press release photos it looks like there might be three blanks)? did you also get the power distribution center (relay box under the hood) that the switches control? What are the part numbers?

Thanks,
