I just put in 2 new batteries and started the 2007 dodge ram 3500 and the volt meter will not move
over 14 and the cab lights flickers and check engine light stays on and I am getting false readings
to the trans like it is overheating.
Stop the engine and check the battery voltage with a meter - not the one on the dash. I would check them individually so disconnect them again.
Does one have very low voltage, say around 10.X or lower? Could be a defective battery.
I bought two new batts from NAPA a few years ago and found one was internally shorted before I even put it in my truck.
Check your cross over cable. When it goes bad the truck charges the passenger battery at 16-18v since it reads charge off the driver battery. You can use a real volt meter while the truck is running to check it. The voltage on each battery should be within a couple tenths of a volt. The voltage read between the two positive terminals should less than 0.5v.
Find out what code or codes are active. Either by a code reader, or cycling the key three times. With that method, cycle it three times from off to on fast, but leave it on with the third cycle. A P0000 will show up in the odometer.
