My truck,as listed below, has 212k miles. I have sold my trailer and no longer need this truck for that purpose. It is however my daily driver and as such still provides excellent service.
A shoulder injury is being compounded by the action of having to row thru the 6 speed manual transmission.

I have given some thought to the idea of purchasing a new truck with a 6.4 Hemi with a AUTO transmission.
Besides the dramatic drop in fuel mileage, I know I would miss the "low end grunt" of the Cummins. Towards that end I am thinking about the practicality of a 4:10 rear to help make up the difference in that area especially when traveling in the Sierras. I know that would continue to reduce my mileage but not sure if my thinking is clear on what I am trying to achieve.

If I decide to keep my 02 am curious what I can expect to spend to keep it rolling as we head towards 300k miles. I am on my 2nd VP pump ( 3 total) replaced under warranty at 82k and subsequently purchased Guages and the Fass lift pump.
Injectors are original. Still getting 17.5 mpg around town and 20 plus going over the "hill" to the Bay Area in CA to see family.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone with experience with the Hemi in this configuration or comments regarding my thought process.

I fully expected for my 02 to be my last vehicle purchase as I knew it would last. Unfortunately I didn't factor into the equation my own health issues that might arise

Charlie

look into the ecodiesel.
maybe try and find a well kept auto and trade? or partial trade.
as for keeping it going to the 300K mark that's not all the hard. keep clean oil and good fuel it'll last well past the 300K mark.
the seats leave some to be desired as does the ride. i love my 3rd gen.
however if you don't need a tow pig, then i'd look into the ecodiesel, nice low end grunt and still high 20's low 30's for mpg's. the wife and i are looking into one just as a 3rd vehicle.

Agree on the swap if it's something you'd even be interested in.

I know I'd be all over that one if we were closer, I've got receipts on a well built auto with a quality TC from a well known local builder that i would gladly trade you for.

I would even provide the labor for both swaps and return your truck to reliable DD status.

I would wager you could easily find someone in your area willing to do the same if your not in a big hurry and able to hold off for the right deal. I know personally I've put the offer out to a few people locally but unfortunately it's never went thru as they backed out for different reasons. (mostly, nobody wants to trade a 6 speed manual for a 4 speed auto).
