Bob, I just checked my e-mail. Thanks for the update.

Now to get it on the truck and try it out!!Oo. Oo.

Bob,

Thanks for the Beta program. I was previously running Level three on the wild torque management with no TST unless I wanted to play with others. With the Beta program I am running Level nine and the on TST 3/0/3 in order to make it feel like wild level three. I am very impressed about how well the two stack together now just want to have the wild torque management back.

Went for a drive tonight.

About 25 miles on level 5 and about 25 or so miles on 7.

Here is what I noticed. The timing rattle is crazy between 2,500 and 3,500RPM. Hitting 3,500RPM takes a LONG time. Level 7 seems to have about the same power as the old level 5.

Don't get me wrong, it is nice to drive with this SW, but the Timing rattle concerns me.

On level 7 I can see 41psi. The highest EGT I saw was about 1,200 on 5 and I was doing about 90 in 5th on a 2 lane windy country road.

I came home, figured I pushed my luck enough on those roads for one night.

jcasper i to had some timing rattle on 5 & 7, but alot of that was due to my larger injectors so i now run 6 & 8 with no timing rattle whatsoever (quiet as a stocker). power seems to be just as good with maybe a hint more of smoke than the timing sw#'s. just give the even #'s a try you'll like it.

Beta 4.x software

Bob, Marco and company deserves a hearty thank you for the new SMARTY Beta software. The old 2003 SLT with 250 SO really likes this tune. Little or no smoke, quicker starting, smoother acceleration even on SW 9. Even the exhaust smells cleaner. Maybe this will help keep the oil from turning black so soon like the old tune did. Latter on I will try to get the EGT guage hooked up to check out exhaust temps.

Again, Thanks for all of your support,

LMcCary

P. S. Saw a few hundered more high rpm, 3600 plus while going through the gears.

I will try level 6 next time I get a chance. I need to get rid of the rattle.

I tried level 6 today.

Level 6 SUCKS. Sorry for being straight and to the point, but that was my first thought.

The rattle is gone, but there is NO power. It feels good to about 1,500 and then it's flat and nothing. In 6th gear at 65MPH I put my foot to the floor and the speedometer and tach hardly moved.

My Smarty is sitting by my LazBoy and I'm going to download something off the Mads site to try for tomorrow. The Beta is just way too rattly for me and the no timing level 6 had NO power.

If it wasn't for the rattle I would continue to run this. Level 5 seemed almost perfect except for the rattle above 2,500RPM.

I don't want to sound like I am accusing or anything, but does every SW get dynoed before you release it Bob? Then again every truck is different and maybe it's just my truck.

Update for a 2003 305/555 with 100 HP injectors:

1) No rattle at all under various driving conditions, rpm range, as low as 10* air temp and as high as 50*.

2) Less smoke than earlier Smarty programs. If it does smoke it is more gray than pitch black.

3) EGT are ~500-550* at 77 mph cruise. Before this program, 550 to 600* was more the norm.

4) Mileage seems to be lower than previous Smarty programs. However, this may be due to a combination of winter fuel and lower outside temperatures. Combined city and highway driving mileage for 2 tanks of fuel were 15. 2 and 15. 5 mpg. With earlier Smarty programs I was averaging 16. 7 mpg.

I've not been past level 5... but I'm liking it. I had more rattle with 4. 10c software than I do now. I hear more rattle at idle than anything else. Oo.

I've put a little over 1500 miles on the latest beta and really like it so far. I ran #5 and #1 just to see if I could notice any economy difference, and there didn't seem to be any noticeable difference. I got right at 19 mpg on either sw, mostly highway driving.

The power seems to be very smooth through the rpm range with very little smoke. There's definitely timing rattle when its cold, but doesn't bother me any. I think I'll go ahead and bump it up to #9 and see how it feels.

I have no complaints so far, except sometimes I wish the old smarty smoke was still there for the occasional a-hole on the road:-laf

I am not trying to be an *****hole or anything here but this is a "BETA" software. I don't think Bob needs me to come to his defense but it was given out on a "ask for basis" for all of us privileged enough to get it to try out and give feedback on. It was designated to be what all of us have come to consider as a standard. Don't you have larger than stock injectors? It has already been previously determined that larger injectors require a reduced timing program from the satndard in order to limit the timing rattle that you are complaining about. If you have a dislike or concern about this software then please give all of us your feedback and go back to what has been working for you.

I happen to find that this perticular version is probably the best all-around performer that I have tried. It is not too aggressive with the throttle response and it pulls nice and even from right off idle all the way to the top with reduced smoke from other versions that I have tried.

I did try it out and that is my feedback. I am sorry for being to the Point, but that's how I work.

I understand it's a "Beta", but even at that level 6 had less power then stock programming and I would think that even Beta would be tested by them before handed out.

Like I said, I loved how level 5 and 7 worked except for it having so much rattle.

And NO my injectors are stock.

I have only tried level 7 and 9 and so far this is what I’ve observed:

1. Level 7 seems to be much smoother that level 9.

2. The idle on level 7 is very smooth. Much quieter.

3. Not much timing rattle, no more than other sw versions.

4. Smoke is very minimal, unless at WO throttle.

5. Egt’s have been at least 200 degrees lower. WO throttle pushing 44 psi of boost, my egt’s never exceeded 1200.

6. My auto seems to shift better, holds the gears longer.

7. I haven’t noticed any mpg improvements. (driving style)

Overall, I like the new beta.
