Blown freeze plug, replace and use plate or use Enterprise pressure system?

Question for the ZZ intake manifold owners

Much nicer program. Does has some rattle, but not objectionable. It does rattle a bit more when first stepping on the gas, like an older gasser where the timing didn't retard fast enough during tip in.

Much more manageable smoke levels. Very nice. I could see leaving this one in and not going back to stock... . but only if it improves MPG.

Anybody have MPG numbers yet? I've only run one tank and did not see an improvement over stock. Could be several reasons for that, like colder air, so I'll give it a few tanks.

I'm running SW#1, is that still the best for MPG increases?

Bob I don't think it has to do with the Smarty changing shift points. In any event the difference isn't changing shift points, it is a change of when t. c. lockup occurs.

Also, I think (not very well, but I try), it has more to do with throttle position relative to speed. The Smarty does provide more fuel at light throttle, and throttle position has an effect on line pressure, shift points and tc lockup. Perhaps I am wrong on all of the above but that is how I understand the situation.

One thing I know is that my truck, with my mods, running the new beta, lockup of the tc doesn't occur as soon as with stock programming. Im not complaining, it IS much smoother, and less likely to bark the turbo.

thanks for all the information and lets keep brainstorming, It will mean a better product for everyone.

And that is our goal.

MPG figures should be coming in soon.

Thanks

I haven't driven far enough with this tune for a "real" calculation, but on the overhead yesterday I saw a 3 MPG higher that usual reading. It was only 50 miles, half freeway, half stop and go. Looks promising. I loaded SW 3 this time and didn't smoke anyone out.

The first beta program made the overhead go way up, unfortunately hand calculation showed only a modest improvement. Forget about the lie-o-meter, lets hope this newer beta does a lot better on the real (hand calculated) mpg numbers.

If the Smarty does not change the factory shift points... ... how come without the smarty and in tow haul I shift into overdrive at 67mph and with the smarty betas it shifts into overdrive at 50mph creating low rpm, luging, high smoke, high egts etc.

I started my 3,000 mile trip with the new Beta and high hopes... . Im 12 hours in and have unloaded it and running stock because of smoke all over my trailer and the early shifting. The EGTS are great though!!!! 200 lower then before. Congrats on that part.

Thanks for the updates

If I were you I would just use the OD lockout button to prevent the early shift problem, then shift into OD when you feel it's time to.

My line of thinking is that the trans is shifting into OD early because of the increased power of the Smarty tune.

Your amount of throttle input is much less when using the Smarty tune, this makes the trans shift earlier.

The reason probably isn't Smarty actively changing shift points. I think it is because the throttle isn't depressed as far with the Smarty, and the trans programming isn't smart enough to see that extra fuel so it thinks you are loafing along and therefore shifts into OD. I agree Smarty does change the way the auto trucks shift and lockup but I think it is a side effect not a directed effort.

EDIT: Sorry Rank Ram didn't read your post before I posted, you said it far better than I did. My question is why cant we get a tune that allows a little more pedal before serious fuel??

Well, I finally got my 4x loaded on the truck and took it for a drive. Just like others have talked about the shuttle shifting going away--mine did too. It had gotten pretty bad with the 4. 4. Even when I put it back to stock i had the same problem. So the throttle position argument, I don't know if I agree with it. I sure don't understand it, but it's gone.

It doesn't have the power of the 4. 4, but it seems to be more proportional. I loaded #5 and it seemed to run about like when I had my TST/ EZ on 3/3/2. Only ran about 32# boost. Loaded #9 which I couldn't run on the regular or 4. 4 because of too much smoke for me. Power is good and smoke clears up pretty quick. EGT's only hit 1250 on a 0-110 WOT run.

Upped the speed limiter and took it to 115 to check it and works good. That's plenty fast for me.

I like it that it has more pedal now. Not quite a touchy. Cruise works good too. I'll be towing with it on Friday, so I'll see how it does then.

I did have some timing rattle when I first loaded it up, but haven't noticed any since. All in all I would say I like it.

Now I'll have to load an even # and turn my TST on and see what happens.

Good job Marco and Bob.

Hey Bob,

I would love to have the new Beta. I know you are busy so as soon as you can send it that would be great.

Do I need to send you a e-mail or p. m. ?

here is mine -- email address removed --

Thanks

Hey Bob,

Thanks a million. I just got the Beta and am downloading it now.

Can't wait to see how it works.

Thanks again
