I just got back from a little jaunt using the latest Smarty beta software that Bob sent me (latest after 4. 4).

I loaded up #3, TST 2x0, and turned the TST timing off to let the Smarty make full use of its dynamic timing without letting the TST do weird crap in the background.

All I can say so far is that I think that it is better than the 4. 4!

-> It has the same throttle responsiveness as the 4. 4, i. e. , just right without constantly engaging the seatbelt locks, but now an additional 60 HP feels like 60 HP as opposed to the Beta 4. 4 mono-setting.

-> It pulls hard to red-line and didn't have any flat spots. Whether or not this was because I added the TST in for the top-end - I don't know - but in earlier Smarty versions with TST or no TST there were some noticeable dead spots.

-> Smarty's use of rail pressure appears to be more noticeable in this software than the earlier 4. 4 acording to my gauge. At idle, RP is normal OEM. At cruise, RP is up ~2500-3000 psi to about 13,500 psi @ 70 mph. Note that I have a 305/555 engine so RP is normally lower than the newer trucks.

-> rail pressure ramp up off-idle is strong, but tapers off to OEM levels as the rpm comes up. This is very similar to the VA C3. 1 pressure box programming.

-> Smoke? Just like running a pressure box on mid-settings in normal driving conditions.

-> EGT? This was only about ~500 rwHP settings with twin turbos so EGT topped ~1000* and then the truck hit redline.

-> injector rattle? Nada!

No mileage figures yet. That will happen next week when I make a trip to pick up my new twin set :-laf Oo.

I tried to change the speed limiter after downloading the beta program, but I couldn't get into the menu to do this. It appears that only when plugging the Smarty into stock ECM programming will the speed limiter menu feature show on the screen - unless I am doing something wrong???

I too loaded a new Smarty version that Bob sent me yesterday. I believe that it is a version that is ready to release based on the name, for Aftermarket Turbo, stock injectors and Mild TM.

Initial findings, did some playing today although had to waite for streets to dry after raining all night and morning. It will still go sideways at 50 when shifting if the tires or street have a little water on them.

I tried it with my normal stack of Smarty #6, TST 05TT program and 2/0(for timing only) and EZ on Level 1.

Then turned off the TST and loaded Smarty #9.

Both certainly seemed a little smoother overall, especially from stopped excelleration. My normal somewhat eractic 1-2 shifts are gone, but this could be because I run either Moderate TM or Wild TM.

Smoke is definitely much better under all conditions on mine. Still get some when it is lagged, but not near as bad and cleans up very quick.

EGTs are definitely lower overall and quite a bit at higher RPMs/speed.

This version seems like a very nice daily driver version even with my laggy turbo.

I will run this level for the next few days and see what else I find.

I think the SL option was there when I changed from SW #6 to SW #9, but I will check later. Not sure if you can only change the SL after a SW # has been loaded without loading new SW #.

I've got it loaded as well but I haven't been able to do much as it has rained here all day. Other than the Smarty, Air box, and Exhaust, I am all stock and i can bust the tires loose at 70 (Kinda scary for a moment) on a high gear punch so I can't give a very good report yet. H0pefully I will have some dry weather tomorrow and I can go out to play for a while. From what I done it feels very good with great throttle response and while it still smokes a good bit it is only off idle and clears very quickly.

Smarty Beta x impressions.

I've loaded the Beta x in my '07 and can say that smoke is greatly diminished in a limited test drive. Idle clatter is back as before but not bad(an '07 thing?). Power comes on earlier than stock. No timing rattle under load is detectable at this point. I'm going to fill the BEAST up(ouch) and check fuel economy. Egt's hopefully will be lower than stock(not an issue with mine anyway). In my sig. you can see that I'm carrying 2000# constantly. I will try a full throttle bog run and hopefully not blackout intersections as before. P. S. Due to stock clutch,285's and load I'm sticking w/sw#1.

I e-mail Bob to get the beta 4. x so I’m excited to see what it does once he sends it. I liked the beta 4. 4 I’m just looking for a lower setting like SW#1 for towing and fuel economy

Bob also send me the new beta 4x. It's smooth,no rattle, good power band through all the gears and low speed is controllable with heavy traffic with stop and go. ideal sound stock great Marco,Bob and all keep up the good work. Go to go and test so more pease out be safe all and have fun with your toy.

This new beta is perfect for daily driving. I love the low speed shifting. I have a modified transmission and it has been a love hate relationship. The reduced torque managment would get rid of the 1-2 shuttle but then it would hang gears (delayed shifts). If you play enough you can get the truck to shift right, but the second you change one thing it starts again.

This newest beta has the truck shifting perfect, low speed shifts 1800-1900. And the power comes on very linear. Top end seems to be better also. The previous beta had more rail pressure off idle and this beta seems to have a steady increase across the power band.

Marco and Bob, You have done an amazing job producing an outstanding product. Thanks for your efforts, and I look foward to an all out race program in the near future. Maybe a dual pump, dual turbo, aftermarket injector, aftermarket transmission, headstud, fuel system program.

Sincerely,

thanks for the beta bob.

things are getting better for me also. it seems as if the throttle is more controlable down at the floor and has a way smoother power delivery. instead of the charcoal black soot i had before it seems to be a gray haze and half the overall smoke. i have some timing rattle but not as much as the original smarty program, but haven't loaded it up without timing as of yet. can't wait to get to a dyno to see the difference in settings.

keep up the good work and customer support bob and marco.

thank you... ... .....

Bob hooked me up with the new beta today (thank you sir) and I would agree that the best description is SMOOTH, both the shifts and fuel delivery. I've only played a little on sw3 but so far it is by far the best Smarty tune I have used, for my purposes at least.

I really like how managable the smoke is, if you roll into the throttle you get some haze until boost comes up then she is pretty clean, however, if you really stab the throttle at low rpm you can get a nice little black cloud that is usefull for backing people off your bumper. On this tune the throttle seems to be a little less sensitive, you still get a good push right off idle but only if your right foot actually asks for a push. Nice job Bob and Marco, the Smarty is really starting to become all things to everyone.

I see that most of you guys are playing with an aftermarket turbo but for you stockers like I am have you noticed that the wastegate has been turned up to 36 pounds. I no longer need the boost fooler to make 36 pounds. On all the previous "standard" software that I used the wastegate would open at 32 and cut me back to 28lbs at full throttle. This software will peg 36lbs and hold it. Also, with my trailer (gross 18K) I have about a 100 degree drop in maximum EGT on level five at full throttle. So far so good. Going to be hard to keep the right foot off the floor long enough to check for a fuel mileage increase.

Yeah just to get a baseline I have been running with the VA and TST off. Normally I run the VA at the lower setting w/Smarty or TST.

Increase Rail Pressure?

Does anybody know if these 4. x type updates actually increase rail pressure? I thought these were the type of software that would be used on the Smarty Jr, and I just saw on another site that Marco said the Jr softwares did not raise rail pressure. So what's the story with the (hopefully) soon to be released Beta programming?

Idle clatter is back as before but not bad(an '07 thing?)

I am running SW9 and noticed more rattle than ever at idle.

You don't even notice it once you are moving though.

Sounded like an 02 this morning when I started it!!! Was about 30°.

Smoke is all but gone, power is going to be good for towing and daily driving.
