A co-worker had the 8.1 engine in his 1 ton GMC dually and Ally transmission. He said it worked ok but would use a quart of oil every 800 - 1000 miles. GM said it was within spec...... Hopefully they fixed this aspect of the engine.

I didn't mean to give the impression that he was dumping a truck onto me, we have a unique situation here where my trucks deliver both parts and tires. It makes loading the trucks a challenge at times and makes us also have to deal with used tires from the customers coming back to the shop for retreading.

Sometimes the parts are in the way of the tires and vice versa.

He and I both have input on the trucks and the configuration of the bodies, liftgates, placement of side doors, etc...

If the range and reliability make sense I am not against trying the weird little truck but the spring ride aspect is an obstacle for me......there used to be a kit from Daimler to convert a truck over but I think that it is no longer offered. Even being a dealer it is hard to do things like that in a cost effective manner. So that would mean a one piece at a time conversion.

Back in 1995, I almost converted my 94 2500HD Ram 360 Gasser to Natural Gas, but the cost seemed to much, and at that time, the stations to get the fuel were mostly non-existent.

Dodge had a factory CNG V8 magnum powered B van. I've seen a few.

Ram still offers a CNG/gasoline option, but at $11K, who would want it? Total range on gas and CNG is less than 300 miles.

I'd rather see more focus on dual fueling with either LNG or propane, you can run out of either and still fall back to diesel. Efficiency potential of dual fuel is pretty attractive as well.
