comrades!

any thoughts on a k n air filter and intake elbow ? - they sell a kit which is way less than a " cold air intake " etc...

stock air box stays intact, which i like.

thanks in advance for input. this website is beyond valuable with input from members.

cheers!

2018 2500 cummins

If you want to dust your engine, go ahead and get a K&N filter. BTW the RAM already have a cold air intake.

yes sir, i dont want a cold air intake, as i stated. the ram one is fine, from what i have read. the kit i am referring to is just a tube and a filter.... i have k n filters on my 93 mustang, 70 buick gran sport 455, and a 1994 scooby ( subaru ) all with a lot of miles on them.... cheers snoking!

To each their own! As stated the stock setup will support 600HP. You did not say what year your truck is. Is it still under warranty? Repeat "I am my own warranty station"

yes comrade - still under warranty. 2018 2500. for some reason that will not appear in my post. dunno why. cheers!

Well you must have a lot more money than me if you want to mess around under the hood with mods and risk warranty issues.

There really is no reason to mess with the stock intake. You aren't going to gain any hp with the K&N setup and you risk your warranty. Leave it alone.

snoking - i am not sure why an air filter would void a warranty. ( worst case i would replace factory one for service ) and , no, i am just a carpenter with a useless college degree...i just live at 9500 feet, and am always looking for a little extra HP. :)

You are looking in the wrong place. The K$N will not add any more HP to your RAM. You could have bought a 3500 with the HO engine, and gotten more HP, with full warranty. Oh, yeah! Be sure to clean any K$N filter oil off the senors in the intake path while you are dropping the stock filter back in the truck.

They WILL void your warranty if I have an engine claim.

Also K&N can screw with your sensors.

Chrysler does not screw around anymore with poor quality filters or aftermarket tuners.

comrad you have a TURBO Engine, it always have more air then it needs - it is absolutely NONSENS to install an Airfilter that was designed for a 50th years gasser with a carburetor, you will destroy your engine with this and that for NOTHING.

The only factual changes will be More noise, that cost $230.00. If you operate your truck in dusty conditions it may reduce the engine life form slightly to greatly.

K&N claim

The K&N 63-1568 AirCharger air intake system replaces the restrictive factory air filter and air intake tubing while retaining the factory air box. K&N intakes are designed to dramatically reduce intake restriction as they smooth and straighten air flow for a guaranteed power gain. This allows your engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the factory air filter assembly. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout the engine’s RPM range. The 63-1568 air intake comes with a replacement K&N high-flow air filter and an aerodynamically engineered intake tube that easily connects to your vehicle’s factory air box and turbo inlet. The air filter can be used for up to 50,000 miles before servicing is needed depending on driving conditions.

If the factory filter is restrictive ( OEM Power) the vacuum created by the compression turbine wheel 30+HG would suck it into the turbo or deform / collapse its seal to allow more air flow.

I've add hp to My 2013 and ran the factory box for 4 years, at WOT you could hear what sounded like exhaust drone , My New intake ( Replaces factory box) is louder and the drone noise is gone.

Then why are you asking us about a known garbage K&N filter? We know better and are NOT going to agree with that poor choice. K&N lets more dirt by that may not matter to a low compression gas engine so much, but, consider anything that gets by or through the air filter gets caught in the DPF. Dirt aka silicone quartz dust won't burn up in the DPF resulting in more regens and early clogged DPF failure.

Filters are critical to engine life with the air filter being the most important. A bad oil filter can single handedly take out a Cummins.

Go ahead and fight K&N over ring dusting engine failure or DPF failure after FCA tells you to go pound sand. I want to hear K&N tell you you didn't service their filter properly... And other excuses for their sub-par filter. Engine rebuilds are $10,000 - your gamble.

I've been down this path and will not use any filters that have to be cleaned an oiled. The efficiencies at removing dirt are far more important than air flow. Check the filter efficiencies at particle removal and size and decide based on that. If I remember the gauze/oil able filters were like 97.3 and paper like 99.7. I also know my oil analysis showed silica in the oil when i used the non-paper filters ie. dirt in the engine. no more gauze and oil for me. The money I spent on an intake was a waste of money. Get the facts and decide
