I see alot of you using k&n air filters. I asked cummins about this practice and they recommed against it. Your thoughts?

Personally, if Cummins said that it is a bad idea, I would take their opinion seriously. After all, they made the engine and should know something. I don't have enough upstairs to second guess their engineers. :) .

I've run a K&N in a stock box, in my '95 2500 for over 80,000 miles. My last oil analysis showed a silicon number of 3. They are a great benefit and are perfectly safe. I bed mine in a bead of grease around the lower box and also seal the lower box to the upper box with a bead of grease and then leave it alone for the next 50,000 miles!

I was at Moss Bros Dodge a while back and they were selling K&N filters for the Cummins. I've seen them for sale at other dealers parts counters also.

I am running a K &N 10 in cone

I also have seen them for sail at dodge. .

but what the heck. if i ever bring it in I just put

the stock piece back in ...

take off the box...

and so on and so on

I don't take cummins word for something like this. Their comments are most likely based on a lack of their own engineering evaluation of the product, therefor since they don't know anything about it, they just recommend against it.

I also ran one for about 80K in my 93. I never had any dust in the intake hose and it ran great.

Cummins "recommends" against most ANYTHING that doesn't have THEIR name on it! ;)

Last I knew, they also recommended against fuel additives - but they WILL gladly sell you one of their own... If they don't state plainly that actual USE of a given product WILL void their warranty, use good judgementm and take their "recommendations" with a grain of salt... ;)
