As you can see from my signature I am midly bombed with a 230hp plate slide almost all the way forward. as well my governor is tweeked just a little to give me about 2600 rpms. I have noticed that my filter minder even after being cleaned is being sucked down to about 30percent. I would have thought with the mild bombing that the K&N would have been good enough, but I am guessing it is not. Is that the case? Am I going to have to go to a bigger air filter?

Leon, try removing the boot between your air box and the fender, that solved the problem for me . You'll be suckin' warm air , but" warm air is better than no air"

My filter minder would do the same thing and had a lot of smoke after the #11 plate install. Got the BHAF and the smoke is almost all gone so I would have to think it is flowing enough more air burn the fuel better and the BHAF is less money than the KN and no oil to mess with.

Please explain (BHAF) For us old far-s that aren't up on the terminology !!

I usually don't tickle the carpet with my right foot but recently I was on a stretch of road and did so. The following day I opened the hood and noticed that the filter minder was nearly 2/3's down. This is with the stock Cummins filter

Is it possible to modify the filter box slightly to provide more air and still keep out any dirt/dust? Don't want to go to all the trouble of cutting a 4" hole and all that!

Is there a K&N filter that can be put on with little or no modification?

Bob, from one old fart to another, BHAF means one Big Honkin Air Filter. I didn't realize how long the thread was onthe BHAF until I did a search last night and read through 12 pages on one thread alone. I am going to remove the rubber boot first to see if it makes the difference I need. If not I will go the BHAF route.

Bob,

I drilled a couple of 2" holes in the front of the air box. No more problems with sucking the filter minder down.

My filter reminder had not worked from day one. Then about 7 months ago I replaced the factory with a K&N the Old one was so stopped up that it was a miracle that I was getting any air. I took it off and tested it, it suck down with no leaks but it won't indicate when installed.
