K&N Cold Air Kit question

Friend of mine is trading his 06 2500 srw for a 2009 drw, he has the K&N Cold Air Kit on the truck and does not want to trade it in with the truck. I have heard some good and bad feedback on the kit. Anyone out there running it on thier truck and have you had any problems. I have heard that there is a question regarding the filtering capability. Thanks for the input (can't beat the price for the kit -- FREE)

Yes, you can, when the cost of a new longblock is $10,000. K&N has a less than desireable reputation on CTD's, they allow way too much dust. Even at free the cost/benefit isn't there when there is no mileage or performance difference to be had over the stock system. The only time the aftermarket kits make sense is on highly modified CTD's that need to control EGT's, which also have additional mods and are also generally their own warranty station.

I agree 100% with what BrianJ said. I would not use one on any of my vehicles, even for free.

Accept the kit, and put an AFE or an Amsoil filter on it. You can pick up a new filter for about $60. 00, dry or oiled. After running K&N filters on my sport quads, and finding the carburetor slides full of grit#@$%!, that was enough for me.



The open element air intake systems probably do not make much, if any more hp, in some cases it has been proven they lose hp(because of under hood heat).



They sure do sound nice IMO.

Thanks for the input, thats what I heard. I think I'll stick with the stock setup and an Amsoil filter.
