I'm almost ready to put a K&N air filter in my truck for the benefit of air flow, lower cost in the long run, the popularity of K&N and the extra turbo music. The warranty is my only concern. It states in writing that is DOES NOT cover any expense caused by a possible defect in the filter. K&N will only replace "the filter" if they determine that the owner meets their requirements.
Fram on the other hand, states in their warranty that they will cover any engine damage caused by a possible defect in any of their filters. Of course the damage would have to by proved to have been caused by the filter but documentation by the mechanic and shop of repair would start that ball rolling. It has happened with WIX oil filters and they paid for several Cummins engines damaged by their oil filters. What a nightmare but they did pay up and stand behind their product.
Am I misinterpreting the K&N warranty or are they not sure enough of their product to warranty the results of it to the extent that a lowly company such as Fram will?
