I'm almost ready to put a K&N air filter in my truck for the benefit of air flow, lower cost in the long run, the popularity of K&N and the extra turbo music. The warranty is my only concern. It states in writing that is DOES NOT cover any expense caused by a possible defect in the filter. K&N will only replace "the filter" if they determine that the owner meets their requirements.
Fram on the other hand, states in their warranty that they will cover any engine damage caused by a possible defect in any of their filters. Of course the damage would have to by proved to have been caused by the filter but documentation by the mechanic and shop of repair would start that ball rolling. It has happened with WIX oil filters and they paid for several Cummins engines damaged by their oil filters. What a nightmare but they did pay up and stand behind their product.
Am I misinterpreting the K&N warranty or are they not sure enough of their product to warranty the results of it to the extent that a lowly company such as Fram will?

Sounds like the 'lawyers' have made this statement. If you can prove that the K & N Filter was THE cause of your failure, then by US Laws that apply to manufacturer's / retailers in the US they would cover your engine.

I use K & N in my 96, my wife's 95 Millenia, I used it in my 89 Cummins for 167,000, and use it in my Mazda Rotary Race Car (10,000 rpm).
Keep them clean and they generally are superior to standard filters and most aftermarket filters.

In my personal opinion, if you're not going to use a cotton gauze filter like the K&N or others like it, or a dual foam filter design, use the stock Fleetguard or Mopar, not Fram!!! Ever cut apart one of the Fram oil filters??????

howdy,steve--I agree w/ the post above--"the lawyers" did all that wording. properly used and maintained, they are a good filter. . had'em in several previous applications, and never gave me any trouble. . still don't---rich---BTW here's a "cheap trick" that, so far seems to work--- shove the filter into a panty-hose leg and keeps the larger debris off of the filter surface--happy clattering--rich

Please don't use a Fram Filter of any kind. Just my very personal opinion from a very bad experience. Purolator is only 1 step up as well.
