Here is the link to the new K&N intake system installed on my truck. Pre & Post install photos + just a parts shot. I would note that Oil Filter access will require the intake elbow to be removed. I had been using a K&N in the stock airbox with the snorkle removed and that end of the box cut open as large as you can. So, Far running around town it spools faster and it quieter than my previous set up (no egt info yet). I bought this set up mainly because the sales guy was very helpful & it was an impulse buy  If I had known about the restricted oil filter access before install, I would have looked closer @ the AFE Mega Cannon set up to see if access was any better.

cullyguy, what did that bad boy cost you, if you don't mind me asking that is? I like the way that thing lays in there.

?????

Looks nice. How much was it? Part number? On pic#4, is the filter minder attached to the end? Also, who was the vendor you used?

Sam

The Filter Part # is RC-4780. Yes the filterminder is transfered from the stock airbox to the end of the filter. The vendor I used is usdieselparts.com salesman was Rob, he was the main reason I decided to buy it, very helpful. I actually drove by the place & stopped in looking for an exhaust turndown, of course they had lots of stuff for the Dodge, no turndowns, but they did want to show me this cool new filter set up and you know how that goes. :D I paid somewhere between $233 & $235 for it. They wanted considerably more (full list I guess) but when I choked at that price "instant deal" came about. This puts it in line with what other vendors are charging for the AFE Mega Cannon.

I guess your wife wasn't with you that day :D

Thats sharp looking. Only problem I see is the number of times you'll have to clean the filter element. Had one almost the same size on a 73 Ford 7. 3 which I installed a Banks Stinger System on.

The filter would not go longer than 2000-3000 miles before it was rough looking. It would clean up good and worked good. I find the stock box filter to last longer between cleanings. Don't known about that one but mine did not have 1/2 area as the rectangular

K&N.

Most of the dirt was generated by the fan in dusty areas.

The one thing that does not bother me about K&N's is the way they "LOOK" I have found over many years using these filters that appearance is not a good judge of their effectivness. To each their own, but I venture that most all of the supposed problems with K&N or any other brand fabric filter is excessive and or improper cleaning. Years ago up here in Washington State, MT Saint Helens blew its top,Volcanic ash was everywhere. When we went to check the K&N filter on our 78 Ford PU, the pleats could barely be seen, the engine was not starving for air and the inside of the filter was as clean as new. I know its hard for us guys to trust a filter that can look as bad as a K&N can, but I do and they work for me. On another Note When I went to wash my truck yesterday, I noticed some spots on the filter. It seems as though water spray can get through the side of the hood & splash onto the filter. This is possible with ANY type of open filter mounted in this area. I made a temp fix with some weather strip and am in the process of making a small sheetmetal sheild for that area. I will post another pic or two and let everyone know when it's done.

The elbow is made of a thick black plastic, about 3/32" thick. The material seems to be fairly rigid, but not brittle. I was not to worried about it being plastic as the stock air box is also and I never had any heat issues with it.

well i was more concerned with the flow characteristics of the plastic vs metal.

with plastic or rubber like we now have, static actually impeads the airs flow through the hose. this creates turbulence and misdirects the air flow into the inlet, along with slowing it down.

ohh well. .

Hey cullguy, how's this setup sound, I originally had a replacement amsoil filter, and loved the turbo whistle, I now have the BHAF and have lost the turbo sound, but gained a loss in EGT's, how's this filter making out ?

You can hear the turbo real nice:D My wife asked what did you get now, it sounds like a jet taking off:D :D Oh nothing much honey, just replaced the air filter:rolleyes:

PS. The inside of the elbow is nice & smooth, so i'm thinking that is helping air flow out vs the stock one.
