Any reason not to run one of these? I just put a phram in my truck and have since heard a lot of people saying that's not a good filter for these trucks. K+N is the only other option at my local parts stores.

Two strikes agenst you partner. Fram is junk and K&N... ... I hope they're better than their air filters  Call Genoes and order some Fleetguard filters, made by Cummins for Cummins. If that's a stretch Carquest, NAPA, Purolator, Wix... . these are all better options than Fram.

They're decent filters, and they have a nice nut on the bottom side of the housing for removal, but on the CTD, you don't need that. They use a standard paper filter media and I'd put them on the same level as Wix in terms of filtering ability and overall quality. You can probably find a Wix for about $8 and you're probably paying $10-11 for that K&N.

The only filter I would ever use on a CTD is the Fleetguard Stratapore. They use a filter media you don't find in most filters and you can get them for no more than what you're probably paying for that K&N. My dad and I notice the oil color is much more clean after the same amount of miles and same driving conditions than when using a Wix or K&N.

Look for a local Cummins dealer or I believe Genos Garage carries them. www.genosgarage.com

Do you really think K&N makes that filter?? NOT, made by so OEM junk shop. Buy quality you won't regret it

My friend used the K&N on his 93. He put 5000 miles on it and the oil was still clean. He couldn't believe it. I just tried it on my 03. I now have about 2000 miles on mine, the oil is not clear, but still seems cleaner than the Fleetguard Stratapore I usually use. Time will tell though. So far looks pretty good.

I had a friend that drove his Chev gasser for 15,000 miles with no air filter. Never had a problem with it... ... that you could see from the outside. I'll stick with the Fleetguard, thanks.

I was talking to me service tech and he told me to NOT use fram! There is an o-ring that works it's way into the oil system and can clog the oil jets under the pistons. he said that on the HO and newer motors the oil jets are used for cooling AND lubrication. he has seen a couple seized engines due to this. i guess it wasn't a problem on the standard output engines, as the jets were used mainly for cooling or lubricating, can't remember wich.

There's no o-ring in the Fram filters. It's the cardboard end caps on the filter media (normal filters use metal end caps) that come apart and clog ports in the engine.

I've used Fram filters as long as I can remember, no problems. I would'nt use anything else.

100psi plus cold oil spikes + Fram filter= Gambling with your Cummins.

I would only use Fleetguard, Baldwin, AC delco, purolator, wix or motorcraft.

Fram scares me. They use to say in their ads "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later" There is a lot of truth in that saying... ... ...

Changing oil Is the secret

I was In the garage business for 40 years and most people do not change there oil when they should. Todays cars should change every 3000 miles and diesels every 5000 miles. Always change the filter always. I use wix filters most of my life and they worked for me. If I got a new customer to service I always pulled the valve cover to see how the engine was kept. Was It clean. I had one old time fellow that work for me and If you did not take care of your car or truck you got one good *** chewing to. :-{} . He was one fellow most customer ask for. He was first class. When we service your car or truck It was always clean up washed ready to go. A clean car or truck always runs better? The good old days are gone forever I guess.

I agree on the 5,000 on the diesel oil, and Wix filters Kenneth, but the oil in my wife's Buick looks like I just put it in at 3,000 miles. So I change it when it starts to turn honey colored. I sent a sample in, and Cat told me @ 5,000 I'm changing it too early. So... ... .

i use k@N on my idi our car and our cummins no problems we have moto craft on our psd fram on our tractor and forklifts never any problems also have k@n air fliters on all but forklifts and tractor and never any problems all have leasted and held up been cleaned many times and never any problems

Not many people do what you do?

Not one person out of a thousand ever sent his oil for a check up to see how It holding up. Until I got on the TDR forum I never know of anyone doing this. Every person drives different and different type weather. There city driving and long drives. I never knew where to send the oil to be checked.

Kenneth, if you have a Flying J truckstop near that does oil changes, they will do it right on the spot, otherwise check with your local Catapillar dealer. I think Geno's even sells a kit to do oil sampling. It really tells you a lot!
