Hammer,

How many of us are racing our trucks on dirt tracks? You may have to build your engine more on your sprint cars, but Ill bet no matter what filter you use you have to rebuild your engines all the time. I agree if you live in the "booneys" with alot of dust and dirt then you shoulnt even get ANY high air flow filter. As its going to pass dust more. But for 90% of the people here that are city folk the K&N is fine. I have put well over 150k on 2 other trucks without any problem.

I did a test with the K&N air filter for about 1 year. I found it hard to get just the right amount of oil on the filter. Here is what I did. I cleaned the filter and sprayed the oil on it and installed it. after the filter I coated the intake tube with a small amount of white grease. What I found was dirt on the grease after the filter. I tryed putting more oil on the filter and found out that it did not breath good enough causing a higher amount of oxidation in the engine oil. Still there was a small amount of dirt on the grease. I will not use a K&N filter ever!

In addition to that I have seen many oil analysis with too much dirt caused by poor maintance practice. Like one guy put his K&N in the dishwasher to clean it. Or one guy did not dry it before oiling it. Or one guy used the high pressure hose to clean it. One guy even poured engine oil on the filter to oil it.

I have not used the Amsoil filter. I went back to the stock filter and have had below normal dirt levels in the oil analysis. I don't know how the Amsoil filter is oiled or if you can over oil it or under oil it but if it is anything like how the K&N filter is oiled --- well you know what I think.

If someone from Amsoil could tell me how it's oiled then I might have a better idea about how it would work. But for now the stock filter is what I'll stick with.

WOW!

No K&N for me. 2 things in the last 3 days we agree on Kevin!

Yes, you can over/under oil the Amsoil filter. You need just enough to make your fingers damp if you squeeze it. If you squeeze it and the oil puddles, it is too much.

Not exactly hassle free, but I like the better flow/better filtration over paper or K&N.
