I ran K&N for about a year, just didn't feel like it was doing the job, When you can see thru the filter media and live in an area with alot of blowing dust- just didn't feel good about it.

I switched to Fleetguard (paper) and change about twice a year. No cleaning and waiting for the oil to dry and wondering if you put to much on.

Did that too.

If I had a race car that never saw dirt, I might consider the K&N, but I had the same issues with one I put in an old Ford with the 7. 3 diesel. Saw dirt down stream, why run a filter that doen't? Save your money for other performace products that won't come back to bite you.

I've had a K&N almost from day one. When I cleaned it the first time I put the paper filter in so it could dry properly. I noticed a definite difference so I bought a second one. Now I've got a K&N it my truck all the time. My oil analysis - done from day one show that the K&N is doing the job quite well.

Happy Trails

I have two K&N air filters. Take out dirty filter and put in clean filter. Clean dirty filter let dry and put on red oil. This way I can take my time and don't have to wait for it to dry. :D

I have posted about this a few times. Go for anything but a K&N. K&N are cruddy filters. Paper is more restrictive but filters much better. Perhaps try a oil filter from another manufacturer that uses better (thicker) media.

K&N Never a problem

I've ran a K&N for 5 years with no problems, so I don't know what all the fuss is about. The Guys with 94 and up trucks can't really speak to the filters for our trucks as theirs is totally different, so don't listen to them IMHO... .

There is a new filter out by I think AFE or ASK or something like that . . A couple of the leaders of K&N started their own company and make filters that are supposed to be way better in quality and performance. A good friend of mine has both the K&N and the ASK? for his PSD and said the ASK? was better in quality by a longshot... .

Gotta see if they make em for the ol 93..... BullyDog sells these filters so maybe call them... .

According to the K&N ads, theirs was the ultimate, nothing could be better... now there's one that's "way better in quality and performance"? Kinda makes you wonder...

After hearing Mark (Forgot his last name), the DC warranty rep, tell us that DC has tested the K&N and found that it does not filter as good as the stock unit, and any warranty repairs related to same would probably not be covered, I elected to go back to Fleetguard. Just my $. 02.

I also decided to replace my K and N with the paper cartridge filter. Through Genos or Cummins the paper filter is not that expensive and does not negatively affect perfmormance compared to the K and N. It might be just a little bit quieter with the paper filter. I think K and N works best in very dusty conditions where the filter is cleaned or changed frequently.

I posted this in another thread concerning the K&N...

To each his own - and I learned LONG ago how pointless it is to challenge dedicated predjudices... BUT, *I* have well over 100,000 miles on my K&N equipped Cummins - and when servicing the K&N a few weeks back deliberately and CAREFULLY did the "white gloves" bit on the intake hose and turbo hub and blades - NO DUST, OIL, OR DIRT! And THAT is with well over 100,000 miles of airflow thru that filter and air tract! ;)

Further, my last oil analysis with 7,000 miles on the oil came in with 8ppm wear particles and 3ppm silicon (dirt!). I challenge ANY K&N hater, or advocate of some "better" filter to meet or beat those numbers by any significant percentage!

Will *I* stick with my K&N? :p ;)

YOU BETCHA!

By the way - many Dodge dealers THEMSELVES offer K&N filter systems as a "performance upgrade"... now WHY would they DO that if the K&N was so "inferior"... ?

i use a pantyhose prefilter on my k and n cone. helps keep filter clean.

do you think it cuts airflow too much?

do you think it would be sufficient to keep out the real fine dust. i also lightly oil the pantyhose.
