What all is involved in installing the K&N cone filter. The stocker paper filter is about in need of replacement and the 880 seemed like a good choice. I know some will disagree, Does everybody like theres??
Thanks for any info

I have been running one for a year and still like it. It looks cool and you can hear your turbo winding better. It runs better than the stock setup (I think).
I used a 5" long X 4" thin wall plastic pipe between the cone filter and the air filter hole. The back end of the cone will lay right back in the corner of the engine compartment. It also costs about $20. 00 less than the flat K&N that fits the stock airbox.

I used a piece of 4 inch exhaust pipe. This allows you to clamp down on the end of the RE-0880 without squishing it in, and is a thin, strong material.

Howdy all,

I have seen HVAC's Lil' Red Ram and his Psycotty (I think) induction, and it looks basically like what RamminRick's picture looks like. Can someone please explain to me what else you get with a system like the Psycotty or Ted Jannetty's similar system as opposed to just buying the K&N 0880 yourself?

I plan to do this to Godzilla, and was just wondering if I should just buy the filter and pre-filter myself, or get one of the commercial systems.

Many thanks,
Tom

Real nice fabricating on the Double Barrel Air Box!

The only thing that I would question is the size of the air intake. Doesn't look to be any larger than the stock air box.

Anyone else have an opinion on this?

It sure would look nice under the hood! I like the heavy duty mounting. Good job!

Me too! #1, I figure I can clean the prefilter a couple of time before bothering with the main filter, #2, My silicon levels dropped by 50% after I started running a prefilter. Admittedly, limited datapoints on this last statement, but the preliminary indications tell me: Use the Prefilter!

RANDUCCI - You ought to build a few more of those bad boys and sell em. That is a work of art. Did you get any reduction in EGT with the set up?

Save your money... buy a new paper filter from and keep the stock set-up. There are no post on this subject that prove any real advantages regarding performance due to the air filter preferences.

A change in sound... seems to be the major claim.

Although Raducci's looks very cool! He gets the Blue Ribbon...

Hate to be a sap (no offense), but Im w/ you Pine Sap. Also you dont have to worry about sucking water in if you blow a hose, or whatever. . Stock is best here.

I thought that I would respond to a couple of questions about my K&N air filter housing.
RamminRick: The two tubes that you see and the holes in the end (towards the fire wall)that you don't, have more area than the stock opening. They are also alot more area than the restriction of the 4" dia. hose leading to the turbo and even greater amount than the 2. 40" dia. inlet of the turbo(of which I made an aluminum turbo inlet velocity stack in place of the silencer ring). Also remember that the K&N RE0880 filter is tapered, so at the fire wall end there is an 1. 5" difference on the inside for air.
JR2: I don't have a EGT gage yet, so I can't tell you if there was a difference.
ShortShift: The whole idea of covering the filter was to keep the water out (I live in Washington state where it rains alot), thats why the tube inlets point to the stock opening in the fenderwell. I'm not sure how the hose could come off (reference to "blow a hose"), it is mounted the same way as the factory unit.
I fabricated the unit (and other items on the truck, like the turbo inlet velocity stack) as a hobby, sometimes they work, somtimes they don't and somtimes they get improved a few times. You never know what can be improved upon until you try sometimes, enough of my ramblings for now.
