I filled my 2004. 5 the other day, fuel price was $2. 45. 9 gal. I noticed the pump next to the diesel pump was k1 for $2. 19 gal. Can k1 be substituted for diesel fuel? It should just be a higher refined version of diesel.
It also does not have road taxes on it and technically is illegal to run, if you're going to be illegal call the home heating oil guy and fill a few drums for your truck, this also is not recommended due to legallities but would be better for your truck.
Back when I hauled fuel, you would fill the tanker with fuel oil, when you went to get it billed, the clerk would ask,"diesel or heating oil" so he would know how too bill it. Same oil.
Now when you haul it comes from the same tank and they add the die into the truck as they fill it. At least that's how it is in the port of Albany. That's for #2 and heat oil which is the same thing K-1 or kerosene is usually not dyed and is clear.
#1 diesel, K-1, pretty much the same. You really do not want to run these fuels straight, unless the temps are below minus fifty. It will run hot and decrease fuel mileage. Anymore, non taxed fuels will not be sold at the pumps. You can get your non-taxed fuels from a jobber, after you show them your tax exempt papers. It will be red, and could still have sulfur, depending on your area. Back east they are still burning fuel oils, regs on it to me are a mystery.
Dyed fuels #1 and #2 are for off road use only, most areas inject the dye at truck loading terminals, on demand from jobber. For farming, railroad, stationary equipment, and some construction equipment.
