Competition Question for ATS!

Competition Rear tire air pressure for racing?

KCIR - 3/17/02 B1 Turbo=13.46 E/T

Well I managed to get the B1 to run 13. 46 E/T.

60ft was 1. 83

1/8th mile was 8. 4

I'm pretty happy with the fact I can run the bigger turbo to the same times as my KwikSpool.

I'll have some videos later when Greg emails them to me.

I ran 13. 69, 13. 46, 13. 9x, 13. 9x.

It was really crowded today, and the last two runs were real close together and I was expermenting letting up on the throttle trying to get it to shift into overdrive sooner.

This 3-4 shift being late is killing me..... so working on the transmission in the future. I strongly feel with how it was launching today with a different TC(race TC) and fixing my shift... . its quite possible it'll pull 12. 99... ... .

So the B1 is NOT just for towing ;)

I have to work tonight..... but Floor It (John) I believe is going to call y'all tommorrow and discuss the 3-4 shift and a solution since it'll be me and him doing it most likely. I'll try to call as well once I get some sleep.

I figure your too heavy to catch up now ;)

Hey Eric whats the email address and I will send those video's! Man I know if you fix that shift timing to where there is no delay between gears or hanging in third it will drop your ET 2 tenths at least I am tellin ya that Pro-Loc trans in Dennis of TS Performance Dodge Shifted better than any trans I have ever rode in PERIOD! I mean 1,2,3 and OD no delay Like yours has between shifts the way it should be! It shifted hard every shift I loved it! I just need my Ford to shift like that! its close but still not the way I want it. But it can be tweeked a little more with a bigger Line Pressure Mod valve and a chip tweek. Congrats on the runs man! Cummins just aint for Pulling trailers no more!

Greg

I'm at my girlfriends house so send it to -- email address removed -- I'm leaving from here and going to work later.

If you could send the 1st and 2nd one first... ...

Thanks Greg... . and on the transmission... . Bill gets first shot at it... hes treated me right everytime... they have a race TC. . which I am told will drop e/t's... that plus the shift fix... . I'm willing to bet theres . 3 or . 4 there.

No problem Eric. I understand about the transmission thing I would let them make it right too! I just still cannot believe how that truck shifted I wish you could have rode in it to see what it did. Oh well I will send the vids Via Ronda's email so look for it.

First Run 13. 67

On the first run I was pumped and ready to roll..... you'll notice alot of smoke floating around..... I had gotten upto the line. . staged and mashing the throttle... ... well the other guy staged... then backed up... . so the starter took longer then I expected so I had to let off since I looked up and it was around 25psi... ... hence my late start... I tried to build a lil bit before taking off again.

13. 46 Run

What more can I say? This run was fun! It also proved the B1 is not just for towing.

Please let me know if these work for you or not. If you can't get them to play then try "right clicking" them and selecting "save target as" and download it to your hard drive.

Stephan,i think ill be next for the race TC,and maybe a cold treated output shaft,I did some drag racing on friday night,WOW,lets just say there are a lot of people that have a new found respect for the CTD!I almost lost to a Talon AWD,because of my late shifting into OD,he started pulling on me when i was wound in 3rd,when it finally shifted,he stopped pulling, and i held him off,it was to close for comfort,He showed me timeslips for 13. 7-13. 9. I lauched at 15psi with a stock turbo, and all 4 285 tires spun once, and it launched like a catapult,i think 10 psi is better for my truck,it actually takes off quicker,no wheel spin at all. Ive never had my truck to the track, but i dodnt think it would run in the 13's,i thought it was a high 14 sec truck,it is defintely a lot quicker than it feels. I also toasted my brothers 95 Trans am,with a mildly modified LT1 350,he runs 13. 9's too. I ran 3 times, boy it was more fun than racing a car ever was,no one expects to lose to a 7K truck,I think it s time for a B1-supermental,etc... Just when i had my credit cards all paid off-LOL.

Hey Eric, what was your MPH? I can't read it on the boards.

Heres the times with the corrosponding MPH.

13. 69 @ 95. 96 mph

13. 46 @ 99. 12 mph

13. 93 @ 99. 45 mph

13. 99 @ 98. 34 mph

The last two 13. 9x's I were ran 15 mins apart, and I was trying to let off the throttle to get it to kick into overdrive sooner.

I've only been able to obtain the elusive 100mph once.

Do you have your 1/8 mile times too? I'm interested to see how close we are there.

My best was 13. 63@98. 06 w/ 1. 92 60' and 8. 64 @ 80. 52 in the 1/8.

Heres the 13. 46 slip breakdown.

60ft - 1. 83

1/8 - 8. 48

MPH -78. 31

This was with over ¾ tank of fuel.

I've only got 80mph in the 1/8th once... . that was the same slip I got the 100mph in the ¼.

All these runs are still on the DDIII's. I haven't tried the BDIV's yet... ... . or a spare set of super mentals you have laying around... ... . ;)

Hey KatDiesel,

That wasn't a riceboy you were racing in that 13. 67 run was it? Did he end up beating you? It looked like it was pretty close... Just say no to rice!

No he didn't beat me. That run I didn't leave the line right away. 2. 215 reaction time because I was building some boost after letting off seconds before. He had a 1. 097 reaction time so in essence he had a 1 sec head start ;) He ran 15. 713 to my 13. 676... so no he didn't beat me. It was a Ford Contour SVT. His 1/8 mile was 10. 18 and mine was 8. 69

When I am at the strip I intentionally try to line up with Mustangs or Camaros... . they are more fun.

That's it. . 6spd or no. . I'm shooting for 14. 0.

Some one has to carry the ETH to the high 90's

The trick will be to do it w/o breaking something:rolleyes:

wish me luck. . Kat, you gotta make the tulsa dyno day. I wanna ride in it:cool:

12. 99 would really be awesome. we'll have to run you down to about 1/8th tank and bring some fuel with us. that should get close to a . 1 by shaving weight.

I've been running w/just one battery that saves another 20-30lbs. For about $50 we can put the other back under the bed to at least shift the weight to the rear. You might try a tonneu cover. It's supposed to cut drag by 10-20% which would help get those extra mph at the end of the track.

When I used to run my mustang a cheap 10-15 hp was gained by underdriving the accessories. a smaller crank pulley and shorter belt made a huge difference in power. I wonder if this is some thing we could pull off. The only accessory I worry about slowing down is the alternator. On Board Air makes a pulley 10% smaller for it to speed it back up. . runs about $40.

I know a horton fan clutch would make a difference. . you could force it on before the run to cool things off then disable it at the line. let the wind do the work for 13 seconds.

What kind of pressures are you running in your tires? We could air them down a bit to help the launch. This will relax the sidewalls slightly and allow the tire to 'grow' a bit at high speed effectively changing the rearend ratio at the end of the qtr.

With a little work on your transmission and a little shade tree enginuity we should be able to get you into the 12's.

Good luck,

Mark

Mark, you need to get rid of the six speed,if your going to drag race, the auto is the only choice. Just do it ,you wont regret it for drag racing.

Mark -

I'm putting the BD IV's in this thursday. I am seriously wondering if by adding injectors, fixing the 3-4 shift, and putting in a race TC I should be right there knocking on the door of 12. 99.

The horton fan I never really thought bout but something to look into in the future. I've pondered if there were pullies available thats popular with the gasser crowd. I have also been eyeing tonneu covers... . simple lightweight easy on. . easy off ones... but all this is $$$ I don't really have right this minute.

I'm wondering if Kurt has my "ace in the hole" he says his AT4 turbo is pretty fast... ... ... . I hope to find out one day soon. The B1 does a respectable job..... but its a bit harder to get it to shine at the strip.

SnowMan, The auto doesn't handle a 20k gooseneck the way I want it to.

Kat, A cloth tonneau could be gotten pretty cheap. I bet I could rig one up with a tarp some bolts and a few pieces of flat bar and small square tubing. It doesn't have to be fancy to test the concept.

An air dam on the front of the truck to reduce air flow/turbulence underneath would do great things. To make one you'd have to have a sheetmetal brake and shear and a little time.

The B1 shines on the top side where the HX's fall short.

Mark, your right about towing, even with the trans fully built, its still not strong enough for what your doing. I only tow about 5% of the miles i drive, and always under 9K,usually about 4K lbs max. even with 4K,the transmission isnt happy at all.
