OK, with all the talk going around about the Killer Dowel Pins, I've been hearing some rumors that it got fixed for the '98 12 valve engines. Other rumors say it was fixed on '98's, but not until the 24V's came out (that one makes sense, there's a lot of new/different pieces on that engine).

So, since we now seem to have a significant number of folks who've taken the gear case cover off for the washer tab fix, I figure it's time to ask if anyone's ever looked into the case of a '98? Does it have a "fixed" cover, or is it the same as the 94-97's?

I've got 85K on my '98 and will likely run the warrantee out by the end of the year. Much as I'd like to just tear into the thing and "fix" it now, time doesn't really allow for that right now. Of course, if it grenades on me, well, I don't have time for that either, but at least it's under warrantee for now.

So, am I sittin' on a potential bomb or not? Does anyone really know about 98 12V's yet? One thing's for sure, unless I hear otherwise, the cover's coming off and the "fix" will be done within inches of passing 100K, I'll make the time then...

I have a 98 12V and I sent the dowel pin through the timing cover. When it went back together, I made sure that they used the new housing.
