Had my KDP fixed last Thursday at Blue Chip Diesel. Did the drill and screw method, but when drilling, the drill bit hit the dowle pin!! I had come out more than half way!

Tim at BCD had to remove the cover and pound it back in then completed the screw method. He said that the pin was just about ready to go!

Man am I lucky ... any of you folks with one of the 12 valvers, you may want to get this done ASAP. Just a warning.

Now I figured that I was all set, had the #11 plate put in the truck after the KDP was fixed, took it out for a test drive and blew the clutch (134,000+ miles) Now I will just have to get Blue Chips 1,000+lb. clutch, throwout bearing and pilot bushing:D

sooner than I had hoped (that what I told the wife).

Next is 370's and the 16cm housing. ;)

Cost me $200 ... and believe you me it was well worth it to see what Tim at BCD had to go through to fix it. This guy is a wiz and I have the imfamous S*!t fingers or the anti-midus touch when it comes to this stuff. If I tried this fix, I'm sure I would probably have to spend 10 times that amount to fix all the problems that I would have created.

Chip (the owner), Jane, and Tim the machanic are top notch people to deal with. I will definately be going back to them for other modifications as well as any other engine/transmission related fixes.

i finally got my truck back tody after the KDP struck. It cracked the gear case bad. A local friend of a friend fixed it for me (I Supervised) he only charged me $200. He used JB Weld and silicone on it and it is leak free. I really didn't have any idea how much was involved in tabbing that thing till we had to get in there not only to go ahead and tab it but fix it too. The one good thing coming out of this is when you've been without your truck for a couple of weeks, it feels 10 times as fast when you get it back. However this good feeling can be acomplished alot easier than avoiding the KDP fix!!:D so i guess what i'm trying to say is

FIX THE KDP! :) :)

It's really not that hard to do yourself. I got my tab and instructions from R. ebel for a very reasonable price. I also flushed my cooling system and put in new coolant at the same time. Altogether I had about $80 and 4 hours invested. I probably could have reduced the time to between 2 and 3 hours if I had wanted to, plenty of breaks.

It will really give you some peace of mind knowing it's done. Mine had worked out between 1/8"-1/4". I think it had 134k then.

Good advice, GET IT DONE!!!. Mine just let go last Friday. cracked the case under the fan and blew a 3" hole out the top. Go to the post in this forum labeled "NOT GOOD". Wil try to post pictures when I figure it out.

My milage ....

98rammer,

I have a little over 134,000 miles and that pin was half way out or more. Some people's pin didn't move and some did ... guess it all depends on what bit they used in the milling machines when making the casings.

What a stupid thing to go wrong, and what a bad place for it to go wrong in.

Also, the bolts in the case of my truck were all tight, I have heard of some people here on the TDR who found this interior bolts being loose ... so, check those bolts if you have to take the cover off!

Regarding mileage and the dowel pin, mine was halfway out at 26K miles! The tab fix is really easy so go for it!Oo.
