Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) KDP Bites

Yesturday I finnally got the time so I headed to the Cummins shop to get The gaskets and seals so I could check, fix the kdp. When I got there The parts guy came out to get the cpl And there was oil running from the front. What is the normal cost to get the Timing case repaced? And yes I do Know what needs to be done. I am waiting for their Estimate.

Sorry to hear that the DP has struck your truck. I'd like to know what Cummins charges as I am changing a gear housing on a 95. There is a lot of work involved.

THE FRONT COVER ON MY 98 WAS SOMEWHERE AROUND $450 FROM THE DODGE HOUSE BUT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY... ... ... MAYBE THEIR CHEAPER THROUGH CUMMINS... .

I used JB Weld to fix my timing case after the KDP got me, I know its not the preferred methoed of fix on this site but it works and its a whole lot cheaper and alot less labor intensive than pulling the cam to put a new timing case on.

I bought my parts through cummins, it cost 385 dollars and I did all the work myself with the assistance of a laid of employee from the same shop. It took about ten hours to do and would have taken less if id taken more care around the oil pan gaskett.

I got a call from the shop that will do the job . They want to wash off the front and dye test to locate my oil leak Because Cummins says that my serial # doesn't fall into the problem. Never heard that they Knew which Serial numbers the KDP affected before More on this after we locate the leak.

Horse feathers!!! There have been failures with 1st gen trucks thru a few '99s. That's a lot of serial numbers.

At this time it doesn't matter. If it is the KDP it will be fixed, If not it will be fixed anyway. But I can always hope for the second.

Dye test showed the timing case cover gasket to be leaking, Not the case itself. The serial # thing from Cummins was that my engine already has the updated case. Must have been changed under warrenty before I got it.
