Hello all

Apologies if I read right through this in the kdp instructions (which is likely actually:rolleyes: ), but what size bolt do I need for the kdp jig fix? Looks like 1/4-20? Maybe 1" long, with the tapered head? How far do I countersink, to the stop? Cover doesnt look thick enough, I am a little nervous about countersinking that far. KDP will be KBA, killed before action, tomorrow afternoon!

Thanks all

Eric

Yes Eric, countersink it to the stop. You're right on the size of the bolt. I bought 6 of them at my local hardware store.

So did you get a jig without bolts? Folks have been replenishing the supply when it gets low, guess someone figured the next guy would do it. The size you mentioned is right, why don't you buy a bunch of them. The countersink will only go in as far as it needs to go, don't worry about it. Unless you grind around the top edge of the bolt it will look like it's in cockeyed, that's ok, it will work fine and is hidden anyways. It's just because it's entering the case at an angle. The bolts that came with the jig kits were all preground.

Bill . .

Pre ground bolts ... what the hey are you talking about??? How can you pre-grind a bolt???

Please ... tell us what you are talknig about ... . CPFF provided STANDARD bolts ... .

In order for the c-sink to fit thru the . 500" drill bushing, I had to reduce the o. d. by about . 015". So when you use a screw that is "full size" the o. d. of the head will hang up on the deep side of the c-sink. No big deal, but it looks better if you belt sand a little off the o. d. and it sets in a little better.

Sorry for not mentioning that in the instructions. :(

When I've used bolts that weren't "preground" (thanks John) I just stick them in the chuck of the cordless let it spin and touch it to the bench grinder for a second. It's purely cosmetic but keeps folks from asking, "Why is the bolt in crooked?" Mainly wanted to warn Eric that it will look crooked unless ground since he was concerned about the countersink depth.

OK ... thanks for the info on that CPFF and Bill ... . I've never bothered to take any off the OD ... I just replenish the kit with standard bolts ...

Has anyone had an issue with this? ( crooked bolts? )

Just emails from jig users who stop half way though the job and lose use of their truck thinking they did something wrong since the bolt looks cockeyed.

No bolts in the kit, but no prob, just wanted to check on size first.

I will put a few tapered flathead allen head bolts in the kit. I was concerned with the case thickness, dont care if it sticks out a little, or alot even.

Thanks CPPF, great looking tools!
