Just wondering if the cracked gearcases folks have replaced are the improved type that contains the pin thus making a jig or tab fix unnecessary? Is the old style case even available?

jim,

i cleaned it up pretty good (not using water) and still couldn't find the damn leak. i looked and looked turned the a/c on and no leak sighted but when i revved it with the a/c on i heard a high pitched loud squeeling noise that could just be oil on my belts but i dont think it really sounded like it. i dont know what the h*ll to do.

Dusty,

I think you are going to have take the fan and fan mount off so you can inspect the gear case to see if it's cracked.

Dusty, do what Joe said, use the instructions we sent to you to take it apart, in the instructions it has you to take the fan off by turning the big fan nut backwards, it you can't do that the hub it attatches to can be taken off with it's 4 bolt's (it's not designed like a gasser) and the two taken off together, once you get that thing off and the shroud off you half way done with the KDP fix, or at least were you can examine the case. Someone else chime in here but I think the case should be cracked at the top if that's what it is. Feel free to call me 405-387-3924 if you have any questions.

Try your best to get the fan off separately from the fan hub mount. That will save you the hassle of taking off the shroud. I just tabbed my KDP and did not have to remove the shroud. I also did not have a 1 7/16 in. open end, but the 1 1/2 in. I did have worked. Came off pretty easy with a couple of whacks from a dead blow hammer.
