Is there a surefire way of knowing if the KDP has been done on a truck? They said that all the recalls have been done, but I'd like to know about this truck. I'm guessing since they did not know of it, then the folks I bought it from didn't do it

The only way you can tell that the KDP was done is by taking off the timing case cover. There will be a washer tab over it (You can look for bolt head going thru side of timing case, that would be the tap method).

No recall for KDP. Covered under warranty if it comes out during warranty period.

There is a photo of my dowel pin in this thread using the tab method. If using the tap method the bolt head would be on the other side of timing case.

The other thing to look for is if the case got cracked and they got a newer case it may have the hole with the smaller side to prevent it from coming out after the case was installed. I doubt they have done this as I would think they would remember the bill from it.

yeah didn't think so, but I will look for signs. Go ahead and pass along any good links to how to fix it and where to get the parts just in case. Thanks:)

If they used the jig method, you will be able to find the bolt going through your timing case. With the tab method, you won't be able to tell.

It doesn't sound like they did it though.

The BD KDP kit comes with orange RTV, you can see the stuff around the cover. My truck was was done at 60K and the KDP was flush and was tight. It took 3 hours.
