Taking the truck into Cummins for the KDP epoxy deal this week. I guess they don't want a washer tab floating around in there either. Any thoughts
 
Doesnt sound like much of a deal. Putting a glob of glue on it. Is this Cummin's official cure for the KDP. I say if your taking it down that far ,do it right. I'd go for the washer tab fix before I'd depend on an epoxy booger holding it in. :rolleyes:
 
KDP jig available

Three more trk`s that don`t have to worry about the KDP problem. Did three trk`s today -only took 4 hr`s wern`t in any hurry. I have the jig and the accessories that go with it to do the fix,someone speak up and I will send it to you!
 
That is beyond belief! Next thing will be chewing gum to hold things together! With todays epoxies if the "glob" comes loose it will eat the front off you Cummins... . get a gaurentee!
 
I fixed mine but did it a little differently.

I really wanted to see where the the pin was at so I removed the gear case cover. It is a job but not that bad.

The pin was protruding about 1/16" out from the face of the gear case. I tapped it back in about 1/8" until it bottomed out. It took some force to drive it back so am unsure if it had moved out there on it's own or if it was left that way when the engine was assembled.



I decided against the washer under the bolt and instead, bored a 1/4" hole through the lip of the gear case directly adjacent to the pin and tapped it to 5/16".

I screwed in a 1-1/4" x 5/16" hex head cap screw coated with locktite.

The head of the screw is on the outside of the case and the body of the screw lies right across the face of the pin so that it cannot come out. The cap screw cannot come out and there is nothing new inside the gear case to fall off.



Replacing the crank shaft seal was fun. Best way is to either use the vibration damper or a jig and use the damper bolts to press the seal in. The hammer bit is not very satisfactory.

I stopped by Cummins Southwest [Albuquerque] yesterday and asked about the KDP issue. They never heard of it, let alone a fix.



Only thing the guy really wanted to talk about was an overvalved they had in recently; said "the guy had one of them chips in it... melted the whole thing right down... cost him 6-7 grand for a new short block and then the idiot went and put the chip back in". :D
