What cam is best ?

I have only owned my 97 long enough to buy my plates and the :{ "kdp" got me!

My son and I bought one a year ago and take turns driving the fire breathing beast,(too much fun) which is why I bought this one, so we both could play

I have several questions on some of the parts I would like to replace while fixing, but, I will take it one step at a time and start with a cam.

What is the best cam replacement for this truck without having to do allot of modifications?

The truck is stock including pump, but I plan to do more modes as I go. Any advice would be appreciated.

97 cummins stock

97 cummins few mods

97 ford powerstroke  sorry guys

has anyone even replaced the cam and can give any pointers? I'm not real sure what all I'm getting into here so any advise given will help. We are new at all of this with the cummins motor that is and will be asking allot questions. From what I have read it sounds like most of you know what you are talking about and most of that has come from personal experience.

how many miles is on your truck? I just had the KDP take a crap on me two weeks ago at 220,000 and my cam looked almost new. Alot of guys are making BIG power out of a stock cam. If your cam looked OK and you did not have any plans to make 600 horse, I would reuse the cam you have. If you are still set on a new cam, call shied's and let him know what you want to do and he can grind a custom one for you. Good luck with the rebuild.

it had 126,000 on it when the KDP fell out. I had just bought it and really had no chance to look inside to see if it had been fixed. It is a chance you take with anything you buy.

Anyway, THANKS for the advice, it is well taken. My first thought was to stay with the stock cam but figured I would ask the question to see what was best since I would have her apart. Thanks again!!
