I have done the tab fix on two trucks. My 95 at 74,000 had the pin sticking out about 1/4". My friends 98 at 70,000 had the pin out about 3/8" and I was able to push it back in with my finger! I think both of these would have failed. Both of us have lost 5th gear! I will do another friends 96 this week-end. For $50. 00 worth of parts and about 3 hours labor a person can have piece of mind... It's still the best damm truck I ever owned.

On my friends 96 the headlights go out when he turns them on bright. I checked the archives and all roads lead to the switch. Seems to me I remember reading a safety recall on this, but I can't find it. It's a 2500. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I use a friends computer and his email is, -- email address removed --

Just did the headlight switch in a 95 2500. There is a recall for 3500 models recall #819. I purchased cajm8190 from Dodge (stealer) for $78. 10 Canadian. Kit is not to bad to install with the exeception of two wires. You will need a very small flat blade screwdriver if you do not have "special" miller tool. The install instruction are on this site. Look up Recall #819. Good luck, hope you have slender fingers.

Head light switch,up grade?

How can I tell if my head light switch has "the up grade"? It's a '95, 2500. I would like to make sure it has the relay if at all possible! Bought used, former owner says it has all "up grades" what ever that means. jps

Take the serial # to the dealer and ask them if its been done, if it has been done by a dealer they will know.

The upgrade that I installed just has some heavier gauge wires that attach to the switch and need soldered into the undersized stock wires. There is no relay in the upgrade.

In the CAJM8190 that I bought, a relay was included. It is wrapped in grey foam. Heavier wires were also included. The wires do need to be soldered if your truck wiring harness is damaged.

Is the CAJM8190 kit for the 3500? The replacement kit I bought was for the 2500 and didn't have a relay. Maybe we should get the 3500 kit, even for a 2500.

Where are you supposed to put the relay?

You are correct. The CAJM8190 is for a 3500. This "kit" does fit the 2500. It plugs into our factory harness. The relay fits on the left side of the headlight switch (when you are sitting in the drivers seat). The most difficult part of doing this install is getting two wires out of the factory 9 pin connector. I used a very small flat blade screwdriver.

I installed CAJM8190 in a 1995 2500. Yes, it fits and it uses the factory harness. For lots of reading, do a search under headlight switch. I used install instructions that are on this site. see: TSB's>Recall 819
