I am the caretaker for jig #15 and I felt a post was again necessary to try and speed up the process of moving the jig around the country. It is very important to do the fix as soon as possible when you receive the jig as the list is getting longer every day. This fix can save somebody a lot of grief by preventing the pin from falling out and possibly doing a lot of damage so please don't hold up its progress. I was hoping it would never happen, but today I got a pm from a fellow on my list that had his pin come out and broke his case. Most of the fellows are really good about moving it on promptly but some seem to need a month to do the fix. In this month, four fellows could have used the jig. We have a great opportunity to do an easy fix for a problem that is very real so please do your part.

Thanks

Michael

Any chance of you sending the jig to the Phoenix area when you're done? I feel the clock ticking - tick tock tick tock.

I do not know the circumstances but, I sent the California area jig on to the next person on the list and have been keeping an eye on the delivery through USPS and the first attempt was made on the 15th. As of this AM it still has not be claimed. I supplied the custodian with the mailing date and an approximation of when it would be delivered. I do hope there are special circumstances why the individual has not gotten the jig from the Post Office. I sent it insured so if it is not picked up it will come back to me but geeze folks that is a waste of time and some poor person may be sitting in that time bomb we all fear! I felt guilty in having it for a week but that was the soonest my mechanic could get to it. At least there were two done in that session.

We are ALL happy when OUR truck/s are fixed but we do have a responsibility to make sure the Jigs do move on ASAP. As I said above there are others out there with that potential time bomb that we should be thinking about.

Dave Fleming,

"the first attempt was made on the 15th. As of this AM it still has not be claimed".

Hmm, that sounds familiar, is that the NW jig? If so, the report is inaccurate. An attempt was made to deliver to me on the 15th - four days after I was told to expect it. However I received it yesterday the 16th, did the repair yesterday, and remailed the jig this morning, the 17th.

Must be a different jig.

kshine, the way you used the NW jig and moved it on was a good example for everyone. Not that it needs to move quite that fast, sort of caught me offguard!

I feel one weekend is plenty of time for a person to have the jig then pass it on.

Cracked me up last winter when a guy in western Oregon asked me if he could keep the jig until it stopped raining:eek:

:--) :--) :--) :--) Your kidding right?OMG!!!

illflem,

Thanks Bill. You should have the kit by Monday, depending on the PO of course.

I did make one small addition to the kit which I neglected to tell you about in email. I added a short piece ( approx. 1/2" ) of threaded stock in the same metric thread size as are the fan pulley bolts. It's like a headless bolt. With that threaded into a fan mount hole the pulley can be put on with the remaining five bolt holes aligned. Once at least one of the real bolts is in place the piece of stock is removed and the rest of the holes will be right where we want them to accept the rest of the bolts. It's an old trick that makes replacing pulleys onto water pumps and the like a breeze. There's a note in the instruction pack about it. I also added a surprise enhancement that I'm sure that you'll find to be appropriate.

Again, thanks much for your part in administering this campaign - it's a lifesaver for these trucks.

KDP Jig

I am the person that you sent the jig to. Had a friend pick it up today because I could not make it back in time.

My wife had surgery to remove a tumor in her liver Wed. the 16th and we were not here to get the package. I need to spend some time with her for the next 6 or 7 days and was planning on repairing my truck next weekend. I apologize and will gladly send it along to the next person. I do understand what you are saying.

Excellent addition Ken! I've told people before that the hardest part of the jig fix was getting the pulley back in the right place. Guess now the hardest part will be getting a wrench on the lower alternator nut, which isn't hard at all if you pivot the alt down after removing the upper bolts.

I've been impressed when the NW jig comes back to me with what has been added to the kit. New case, tubes of Loc-Tite, different air chuck fittings and a allen wrench come to mind right now.

My feeling is jig users should try hard to get it done within a week and absolutely within two weeks at the most. If their turn is up for a jig and they know they will be too busy, they should let the jig keeper know to skip over them and get it to them later.

Too many are waiting for these jigs to not be moving. They should be in use or in shippment at any given time.
