Don't know where the jig is, but I have a question. Is there some good reason why this dowel has to be left in? We use "pull dowels" in blind holes in stamping dies that can be removed if necessary after cap screws have been torqued down. Seems like the dowel could just be removed after the timing case was bolted on.

I'm hunting one of the jigs too.

It would be possible to use a longer dowel that couldn't fall out or a pull dowel by drilling a hole through the front of the timing cover, but both of those things require pulling the cover anyway. The jig avoids taking the cover off.

If you are not planning on taking the front cover off I would plan on doing it. The jig method does not address the 5 10MM bolts that hold the front case to the engine inside that cover. I've seen the results of one of these bolts coming out - cam broken in three places, 6 bent push rods and lifter damage. If you take the cover off you can remove 4 bolts clean and loctite them. The 5th needs a 10MM wrench bent to get to it. It sets behind the PS/Vac pump drive gear. You can loosen it up, clean it, loctite it and tighten it back up again.

Good to hear from you! Yeah I'm still around - semi-retired and still playing with my truck :D :D . I see you are driving an '05 - how is it running?

Whats this jig ???????

you can pull the pump with the cover off no problem and reinstall it .

depending om what this thing looks like i know of a machine shop that can build it cheap im shure then any one whom wants one can have it

I'll have to chime in and emphasize what Bob B. said about the bolts. We pulled my gear cover and all the small bolts had loosened. The dowel had only backed about 1/8". Like Jay said, we staked it (used an air chisel to dent the edges of the hole) and it ain't goin' nowhere. Without pulling the cover, one of those bolts would have eventually backed out all the way.

The radiator in my 93 was very easy to pull and that's all the extra room we needed. It's worth it to know what's going on inside the gear case. Forget the jig.
